AHHHhhhh Moulting Dog!!

A question about : AHHHhhhh Moulting Dog!!

Please please somebody help me!

My dog is loosing her winter fur and its all over the house! Its driving me mad!
Im breathing it in when i sleep, its in my food, all over my clothes!!!

Its white fur too so its showing up on EVERYTHING!

Its only a little Chihuahua (long haired), honestly the clumps of hair coming out you would think id got a Golden Retriever.

Please please somebody tell me how i can stop it coming out or an easy way to get it off furniture, carpet and clothes. The hoover seems to have given up trying and im using far too much selotape on my clothes. Im considering using the hoover on her!

• I don't think there is much you can do to stop it really other than grooming it more often which seems to work for me.
  A rubber glove over clothes and furniture it supposed to work to remove hair.
  There is an attachment brush that you can buy for your vacuum, that is assuming that you dog doesn't mind the noise of it.
  I just remembered that I have seen a sort of cod liver oil for dogs in the pet shop designed for molting dogs. You could give that a try
• Grooming is the only way I'm afraid, and I do sympathise with you as both my cats' base hair is white and yes, it gets everywhere LOL!
• My Mum used to hoover our German Shepherd
  It's because it has suddenly gone so warm. Just brush, brush, brush your dog. Take her outside and do it for an hour to get rid of all the loose hairs then daily to keep on top of it. A good bristle brush will encourage the fluffy hairs to detach rather than waiting for them to drop off themselves.
  To get the hair off your stair carpet....put a pair of trainers on and draw your foot backwards on each step. You'll get tonnes of hair up this way but remember to change legs otherwise you'll end up with one big muscley thigh
• Adding a little oil to your dogs food might help.It did with our Alsatian.Another thing that helped greatly was giving her a good combing in the garden. The resulting mass of fur was left for the birds to grab for their nests or put in the compost.

• We had a long haired dacshund (died 3 weeks ago aged 17 ), and when we first got him we were told to feed him Weetabix with hot water and honey for his breakfast. It gave him a beautiful, shiny coat, but I'm not sure if it stopped him moulting ...
• ... groomed pet hair makes great nesting fluff for birds. Our garden birds don't seem to like the cat hair much, but they used to love the dog's.
• We use the mini-vac everymorning on our persian cat , works a treat. Just rub it over him whilst he is eating his breakfast, before we unlock the cat flap. His head doesn't even come up from the bowl (helps if you have a greedy cat)
  Unfortuantely our dog is scared of it & we can't get near him with it, so white spaniel hairs everywhere:rolleyes:
• Short of shaving or varnishing the dog (believe me, I have been tempted.....), brush it, regular hoovering of everywhere (just like I do :rolleyes: ahem), but one of the best things I have ever bought was a reusable lint roller from Sainsbug's - cost about Ј4, fetches hairs off clothes a treat, then every time you use it, rinse it in hot soapy water, which somehow re-stickys the stcky surface, as well as removing the hairs etc.
• I have four dogs that shed hair (Cavalier King Charles Spaniels) and I give them Vitapet's Moult Formula which you can get from any petshop. This does help and gives their coat a lovely shine too. I just add a spoonful to their dinner.
  Also, what everyone else has said helps too. Groom a lot outside (birds love making nests with the fur that you leave!). Use the larger brown tape rather than sellotape on carpets and clothes. Also, Pets at Home sell a gadget which is a bit like a window scraper but you drag it along the carpet to gather the hair up.

  It looks a bit like something to torture your dog with but believe me it doesn't hurt any more than an ordinary brush. You brush your dog with it and it removes all the dead hair. Its very good for thinning out their coat in the summer when they are hot too. You'd be amazed at how much hair comes away. Just be careful though, I used it on my dog's tail and her lovely bushy tail was reduced to a pathetic wisp!!!!
