A question about : age renew serum

hi, followed a link from MSE for free age renew serum then a couple weeks later found that the company involved had taken over Ј80 from my bank. Cant seem to find the original link on this site to check all the info on it but any advice on what to do next would be welcome. Thanks

Best answers:

  • Cancel the CPA with your bank (in writing so you have a record of it should your bank fail - some of them will try and tell you they can't cancel a CPA) and also cancel the subscription.
Thats how these things usually work anyway, you get a "free trial" and if you dont cancel within x days, you then sign up to a subscription service.
Would help if you know the company name.
Was it via a newsletter from MSE itself or was it a "freebie" thread on the forums?
  • Could it have been a forum spammer whose post was deleted moments later? So many of these 'free' trials (where they take your card details) are balls out scams
  • Hi there
I've just fallen for the exact same scam and they're making out that I have agreed to buy a 30 day supply of this product since I didn't cancel after 14 days. This wasn't mentioned on the website or in the confirmation email and I've emailed customer care who have cancelled it going forward but I haven't had a response regarding getting my money back!
Just wondering if you'd had any luck sorting yours out badgeman?
  • Two posters and neither say what the product was!
  • follow BoP's advice.
If item is free, why do you need my card details.
  • Well yes, hindsight is a fine thing :P
  • hmm, age renew serum eh?
If you pay me Ј50 I'll come and chant some age renewing chants over you that are permanent and will take 10 years+ off you.
    Either that or 50 quid.
  • Age renew scam
Hi I've joined this forum to say thank you.
Last week I did a short survey for my bank and was offered a small free gift so I chose the Age renew serum, paid Ј1.95 for posting. There was nothing to tell me it was going to be a commitment, no terms and conditions showing, let alone to tick. After it arrived I just thought to google 'Age renew scam' and your posts came up. I found Age Renew's website, wrote and asked them if I had been tricked into a commitment for which my card would be involuntarily debited further. They said Yes, and in two weeks they will debit me Ј80 in I don't send it back quoting a returns number.
Thanks to your forum alerting me of this I am sending it back recorded delivery - my 'free' gift will have cost a fair bit of time and money.
Pass the message on. I thought I was dealing with a bone fide company whilst on my bank's website.
  • Just been to bank. They said I wasn't the first, Age Renew was known for this scam and will try to take money every month through their own or a sister company. Bank put a block on credit card.
Age renew has caused a lot of frown lines and wrinkles!
  • pls how do I get out of the mess, I don't have a link to contact anyone, checked my in box, can't find the confirmation mail anymore.
  • They can be reached on this number: 0800 249 4323
It is fairly clear from the outset that the call centre staff have been very well coached in this. In the background I could hear another person on the phone reading word for word the exact same response.
They say that they can refund if the item is returned and 'after an inspection process' has been deemed faulty.
To return the items, you have to be given a 'return' number and send it recorded delivery to the USA with tracking. There is NO GUARANTEE that after all of this they will have deemed it 'faulty'.
They offered to refund me Ј31, thus buying the serum at a discounted price because I was unhappy with the product.
I know that not everyone is in the position to pay Ј50, but I did just to get shot of them.
I have also cancelled my credit card and requested a new one.
This advert popped up on a stationery site that our office regularly purchase from so I thought it was trustworthy. Irritatingly clever scam!
  • My Husband was checking his BT Statement online when a pop-up appeared offering 3(three) different 'freebie' items with just Postage payable, one of which was the Age Renew serum which was ordered online without any form of Contract Agreement and just required name, address and Credit Card numerical.
The item was never received and my Credit Card Statement for the month of order was not received either. To my horror the next C/Card Statement showed two payments to Age Renew each of near Ј85.

I telephoned their Customer Service number 0800-249-4323 and after a 45 minute conversation with an American office, they simply sought to advise the tracking number that I should enquire of the Post Office (as it was MY responsibility to do so !), but offered to reimburse me for ONE item.
Obviously, I refused as I sought reimbursement of the two distinct sums as debited to my Credit Card.
My Credit Card company has filed a Dispute and potential Fraud as I did not agree to the supply of these items in continuity. I now await the result of their action.
  • Hi Everyone,
Thought I had learnt how to look out for things such as this situation but like most of you I got caught out having completed an online survey through my bank where I was given the option of one of three gifts. I opted for the AgeRenew trial on 21 June. It was only yesterday that when my husband checked the bank account that we realised that Ј85,00 had been taken out by this company.
Last night I sent them an email which you can do via their link asking for my money back as at no time was I given to understand that I was purchasing a product and that I was only undertaking a trial. They did email me back this morning noting my concerns but as I have already exceeded the 14 day trial as pointed out in their terms and conditions that they would not give me my money back but would cancel subsequent orders. I have contacted my bank today who were aware of this and are willing to take this case on as a dispute, they will also refund the money to me. This afternoon I have also called the company I spoke to someone in the states who I assumed was at a call centre and asked for some details of the company she was not prepared to do this, she seemed very defensive when i told her that back in the UK we are all viewing this as a scam! I also found an Agerenew Blog where people have posted that this is a scam. I have put this message on here as this was the first point that I came to when I realised something was wrong hence my speed at contacting my bank- so a big thank you for your help.
  • Thanks for the details of your bank's response. My experience of Age Renew was just like yours. I was told by my bank to report them to Trading Standards but having read your post I have now asked my bank for a refund. I have emailed Age Renew asking for a refund to no avail and do now intend to report them to Trading Standards. I hope my bank pays up as they knew about the scam when I phoned them to cancel future payments and were able to tell me all about Age Renew and their tactics.
  • I've had the same problem. The survey came up when I was on my uni web-site so I thought it was legit. I was so annoyed to see that they stole my money!
I phoned them a day after it was debited, all the blame was put on this '3rd party company that they aren't affiliated with?' etc etc... I did ask if I returned the unused product could they reimburse me and they said yes. I sent it to the address he quoted me on recorded delivery, but that was 11th July. I haven't had any money back. I'm going to give them another call later.
Also, how do we report these guys to trading standards? As this is nothing less than theft!
