A question about : Advice on buying a new mattress... where to look?
Our super king-size mattress is now nearly 9 years old and needs to be replaced. Perhaps a mattress should last longer, but one of us is 22 stone and it's gotten a bit saggy. Also, we may not have bought the highest quality.
I know that for someone of that size, we should find the bed with the highest number of enclosed coils or springs or whatever possible. I also know that I would prefer a mattress you can flip and I'm not interested in memory foam.
But I really don't want to spend over Ј1,000. I would like to spend significantly less.
Where should I look?
Best answers:
- I'd say 9 years for a mattress is pretty good going. The National Bed Federation used to say 8-10 years being the average life of a mattress, they have now reduced that figure to 7 years!
I'd say that you'd be looking at a minimum of Ј400 for a half decent super king mattress.
This is a cracker...https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RESTUS-BED...-/360826444423 - About 4 years ago I got a 1000 pocket sprung mattress from Benson or Dreams I can't remember which. Cost me Ј350. Was the best investment I have made. It's still springy and it's the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on. I don't like memory foam and pocket sprung is a very good choice
- Just bought a 1200 pocket sprung from John Lewis Ј450 for a double.
Absolutely brilliant, no roll together at all and a great nights sleep - gumtree is great, because there are so many independent sellers who really needs your business and go the extra mile.
