After 4 fantastic years it's coming back by popular demand for 2014!

The Ј365 in 365 days challenge

The aim: To save Ј1 a day from 1st January 2014, whether it be a Ј1 coin into a jar or piggy bank or moving it across in an online saver, it really doesn't matter . We will then open the jar or have access to the online account on 31st December 2014 and spend spend spend in January 2015 sales, or if you have something else you want to spend it on then fair play.

I will be setting up a standing order for Ј7 to leave my account every week and go into my instant access savings account. This way, if I have an emergency or am in dire need of money, I have quick access to it. As you can see from my signature, I have my own debt problems, so if people want to put it towards their debts at the end of every month, please feel free. Getting rid of debt is a priority!

I am running this thread on top of doing many others, I am doing the sealed pot challenge in 2014, along with the virtual pot challenge and the weekly savings challenge. Throughout 2014 I am hoping to save a total of Ј6000, which I will hopefully document in the Save 12k in 2014 thread

This is just a side challenge, which I won't have to manage as the standing order will do all the work, but if it's Ј365 more saved throughout 2014 then it's a bonus.

You CAN include any extra money you wish as you go along.

You can choose to end earlier if you wish to use the money for Christmas.

• Count me in! Sounds like a great discipline to have and I could really do with the help with the savings along with the Sealed Pot Challenge!

  I've just logged onto online banking and renamed my online saver 'A pound a day' . I also set up my standing order to start on January 1st, woop woop
• I'm in as well doing the virtual and sealed pot challenge as well need to save lots of cash next year as I want to be debt free and have a no stress Christmas 2014
• I have done similar myself, more as some kind of self test on my own commitment.
  I have opened up a savings account based from 1st Jan 2014. The only difference is I intend to put Ј2 a day into the pot throughout the whole Year, the money accumulated at the end of the Year will probably go towards a holiday, but I have not made any decisions on what it will be used for as yet.
• Saw this last year and have been doing this, but then lost the thread (I have taken the wise advice of subscribing to this one) - I have a tin from the Ј1 shop that you have to open with a tin opener. I'm so looking forward to opening it! I tend to use a paper calendar to cross the days off (bit like a 365 advent calendar!) - but in reality after the first few weeks just put the cash in on a monthly basis. I'm definitely going to be doing this again in 2014!

  Marleyboy, will I stick you up for Ј730 then? Or the Ј365 it's upto you. That's it, as long as the money is there it doesn't matter what it gets spent on, it's all saved!
  See_the_light, well done for doing it last year, but make sure you stick around to complete the year. Ј365 is better than a kick up the !!!.

  I'm going to put Ј1 per day in to one of those jars that once you open it, you can't use it again!
• Ooh sign me up - I'm already doing this! In my final year of uni and really want a brief holiday with the OH before I start work (as my annual leave is very unlikely to match up with his time off) so am putting Ј7/week into savings (easy access in case I need it to pay bills instead) so I'll have about Ј250 by summer!
