A question about : 1940s themed Anniversary
Hi all
I'm hosting a 1940s (WW2) themed afternoon tea/tea party for my parents 30th wedding anniversary.
We've booked an old wooden scout hut, which is small but ideal (and cheap!).
As a family we have a love for all things 1940s, so I know what Im looking for etc, with decorations etc.
But any tips on saving money?
How would we keep food/drink costs down? We're thinking of just making sandwiches (for 50 people) and purchasing a few of the cakes, just to cut down the work etc.
But has anyone done this before?? Ideas please?
Food we're just thinking sandwiches, cake and maybe sausage rolls or something else (trying to keep with the theme, without 'rationing'). I want to serve tea, and maybe some bubbly, but would have to buy or hire cups/glasses and plates.

- As it's afternoon tea you really don't need to provide that much. Some sandwiches and cakes will be perfectly sufficient. Making them yourself would of course be the cheapest way of doing it, but 50 people is a lot so you might want to consider getting some platters from a supermarket. M&S do loads of nice nibbles but I think most supermarkets have a decent party range now. For the bubbly, I'd have Bucks Fizz to keep the costs down.
You could use disposable plates, cutlery and glasses- not as attractive admittedly but hire can be quite expensive if you want pretty tea sets. You might want to consider a caterer- for a light buffet it should be reasonably priced and you could get the use of their mugs for tea.
