A question about : 18866 100% price rise

my call to tokyo just cost 2p per min it was 1p , has 18866 gone up 100%, still cheap but is it still the cheapest?

Best answers:

  • highly likely, calls to NZ have gone up from 1p to 2p a minute, plus other countries as well.
  • I think 2p/minute is now the cheapest available to Japan.
I take that back. !A new contender - Ratebuster.co.uk has just appeared in the market - offering calls to landlines in Japan for 1p/minute.
They also offer NZ for 1p/minute - as do Telesavers.
  • I personally find this site (previously mentioned in other threads):
    https://niftylist.co.uk
quite handy for comparing who might be the cheapest. It seems up-to-date too.
Ratebuster.co.uk is so new, however, that it's not on the site.
  • There are a couple of providors cheaper than 1899/18866 but they are via premium numbers like 0871 etc. the downside to that is that as soon as u dial these numbers your phone company starts charging you whether you get connected or not. for example if you call pakistan using telesavers 0871 number the rate is 8p as compared to 10p with 1899 but if u get an engaged tone with 0871 you still have to pay for the first minute whereas with 1899 u only pay when u r connected. i find this to be cheaper in the long run as compared to using the premium rate numbers
  • I agree I just found out that calls to the USA have risen to 2p a minute. There was no warning it just happened. It's still cheap and I can't be bothered to change provider. BUT it took 30 minutes to get a 18866 line. it was constantly engaged although wehn trying the number direct it was fine. So 18866 is getting a little PANTS >
  • Interestingly 1899 has dropped its call price to the states - 0.5p/min to landlines (with 3p connection fee).
  • can telesavers 0871 no. be used to call pakistan using free minutes on 3 network????????????/
  • Hi
I am new to 18866. Local calls are really cheap some free. Is this company (Swiss) really cosher and is it really this cheap?
How on earth do they make money?
I can't understand why uswitch do not put them in their equation.
    Any thoughts anyone?
    ???
