A question about : 14 ceramic pots ~ what to plant?

I am an inexperienced, haphazard and forgetful would-be gardener. Please in your replies treat me as an absolute beginner as I know almost nothing about this subject.

My small patio garden gets plenty of light but no direct sunshine. I currently have containers with shrubs, a yucca, heathers, lavender and a maple.

I have a vague idea that I can either plant seeds soon which will take ages to grow, or plug plants in the spring which will grow in weeks, or go and buy full size plants in the early summer. That sums up my total knowledge, and I don't even know if this is correct!

I have 14 vacant ceramic pots of varying sizes and am looking for ideas for them.

Would like to have plants or flowers that will look nice ASAP and all thru the summer.

Does anyone have any ideas for me? Or is this too wide a question?

Bundly.

Best answers:

  • i have pots of all shapes and sizes in my garden- mainly containing rhodedendrons (or however you spell it!) red robin, a phyto something or other and about 6 palms of varying shapes and types. I also have cordylines in pots too.
As far as I am concerned, there is nothing that you cant put in a pot
  • Flowering sages in some? Great scent and colour. Would need winter protection.
Pelargoniums in small ones. Stand all kinds off neglect, pull them into the house in winter where they cheer up a window sil. Scented ones are amazing, but the honest red ones with a 'normal' scent when you find them are unbeatable value.
