A question about : 02 Retentions thread 2

the thing to remember is that all networks are a business. What,if anything they offer you as a retention deal will depend on how much revenue they have made from you during your previous contract term, against how much the last phone you had was worth. eg:

You had a Samsung E900 worth Ј200 sim free
Your contract was Ј25 a month over 12 months (no extra call charges)

Total revenue = Ј 300

Phone cost = Ј200

Total network profit = Ј100

Divided by the year, they have made Ј8.30 a month from you, which in the great scheme of things isn't a great deal of money, and if you had a more expensive handset worth say Ј300+, in fact they are still yet to make ANY profit from you at all, so you then see why they may not be falling over themselves to offer you another Ј300 phone which technically you haven't finished paying for. I know it seems like a kick in the teeth when you have been loyal to a network, but at the end of the day, business is business.

Best answers:

  • Did you actually speak to retentions, or just the upgrade people? Those 'first line' upgrade people have nothing of good to offer - you need to speak to the big boys in retentions. They were a pushover, I just told them what I wanted and how much I wanted to spend.. with what free phone. I was hardly a high spend customer (£25 a month contract AND I got them to give me £120 off my last 18 month's bills)
Try again. If you don't get what you want, try once more. Then go and find a new firm that'll do what you want
  • Been with O2 since 2001 (originally BT Genie) and asked what my upgrade options were. They weren't keen to discuss any of the tariffs/upgrades, but instead kept pushing this rolling 1 month contract of 200mins, 400 texts and unlimited O2 to O2 calls for Ј15 on the basis that they have some 'really good deals coming up so it is probably best to wait a while'. Has anyone else been told the same?
  • prob *another* refresh at o2
  • HI all, just wanted to share this with you. My 18mnth contract has ended with o2 so i rang to ask how much notice i needed to give to cancel and they offered me the following retention packages:
(i'm currently paying £35pm for 750 mins and 750 texts)
1.£25pm line rental with any phone from 02 website (except iphone)
    OR
2.no phone (i said i wanted to keep the one i had)....£20pm line rental and £180 cashback...
+free o2 2 o2 calls anytime (not that this is much use to me?!)
I was surprised at such good retention offers as other mobile companies ive been with really didnt seem to care if you left or not.
So ive took the 2nd offer and had £180 put into my o2 account today which gives me 9months FREE line rental and then £20 for the next 9 months
I was pretty pleased with that!!
    Thank you o2
  • any phone on the o2 website except the iPhone?! What's all that about?!!!
    You did right.
  • Just been offered the same thing...will think over it though. 18m * £20 + £180 cashback
  • Just been offered 18m * £20 + £180 cashback for 750+100 and no new phone.
  • Just come off the phone to 02 Retentions. Got a Nokia N95, 12 month contract, 500 minutes, 500 texts for Ј20 a month.

  • DEMO,
I believe it comes out on the 14th of January!
  • i work for o2 and the black n95 gb will be released on14th jan as stated by baggyburns, although this could change (sometimes handset releases are put back) i would recommend waiting for the handset for about a month, as usually any software issues (and the n95 has has loads) come out within first month of release

  • it sounds like you will be getting the silver n95 with a 8gb memory card as we have not launched the black one yet. the black one has 8gb memory on the phone and does not need a memory card.
  • My wife has just rang O2 Carphonewarehouse customer services. She told them she wanted to change from monthly contract to PAYG. In return, they offered her 200 mins + 200 txts for Ј30 a mth but pay absolutely nothing (not cashback deal) for the first 10 mths. Hence she will only pay Ј60 for the whole year !!
I'm a bit concern whether this is true or not? is anyone get something similar recently?
  • Here's a quick break down of the N95 and N82
Size: N95 8GB is chunkiest, several mm's added on to make way for bigger battery. N82 is slimmest and smallest
Screen: N95 8GB screen is 2.4", a little bigger than the normal N95, and bigger than the N82s. The screen resolution is the same though, 240x320 pixels.
Battery life: N95 8GB comes with a juicier battery, and software enhancments to give 50% longer use than a normal N95. Normal N95 can be improved by a firmware update, but still is poor. N82 is pretty decent.
Software: There is little difference between the 3, The old N95 can be refeshed with some updates.
They all feature GPS, WIFI, etc
N95 lacks system memory which can be very annoying when using it to run apps. The N95 8GB and N82 have 128MB system memory and shoudl be enough for anyone.
N95 8GB lacks a memory card slot; you must hook up to PC via usb or bluetooth or infra red to get your files off, and even USB transfer is slow on this phone. Old N95 and N82 have a card slot - up to 32GB is possible.
Camera: they all feature the same optics, the N95 8GB lacks a lense cover which is a real shame.
Overall - I am wiating for the N82 personally. I was keen on the N95 8GB but the lack of lense cover or expandable memory is a real shame as I know I will fill 8GB relatively easily with music and video.
What I would liek though, is the N95-2 - available in the USA, which is a mix of the N95 and N95 8GB, better battery, card slot, better software, bigger screen.
  • i just got offered 50 mins + 100 texts for absolutely nothing ... Ј25 pm / Ј300 credit / 12 month contract.
was also offered the 200+200 but this should do me.
Tried to get a deal done to include the Web bolt-on (Ј7.50 per month) but they wouldn't offer anything on that.
  • Has anyone had any joy getting either the Nokia N82 or the Sony w960i with a decent pay monthly deal?
