Endowments have hit the headlines again, some 70,000 people will find out that their endowments will not cover their mortgages.

A question about : safety deposit box

Hi this might seem like a mad question - but some of you banking bods might know the answer. About 20 years ago I inherited a safety deposit box & envelope from my my mother, probably opened in the 1950s. The envelope has the deeds to her house in it & the box has some sentimental jewellery & things. I was the executor of her will at the time. I checked all was as it should be & had apart from adding some bits & pieces of my own -I have left things as they were.

A question about : Very worrying stop press news re Anglo Irish

Sky news just this minute reported that the European Commission has started an investigation into the bank to see if EU rules have been breached.

What is most worrying (even for Gozomark) is that were the EU to rule against Ireland its current cast iron ( note I did not say gilt edged ! ) guarantee on deposits might also fall away. If this happened it is quite possible that the bank would go belly up and depositors would lose their savings.
A frightening prospect indeed.

STOP PRESS! 4 March '09 11.40am. As expected ING has closed the loophole. We managed to send out 2.9 million of the 3.3 million emails before it dropped it so well done to all those that got the deal! Any similar offers will always go in the free weekly MoneySaving email.

There's a loophole meaning it's possible to make a free Ј20 just by opening up a savings account and putting Ј1 in it.

A question about : Anyone *NOT* got their Icesave/FSCS email?

Hello,

First off, apologies for yet another Icesave post but looking at the other threads the consensus seems to be lots and lots of people have got their first email from the FSCS about Icesave.

I am assuming I should wait till Friday before moaning directly, although it would be just typical if I don't get mine.

Anyone not got an email yet?

I have two accounts, my first a standard savings which I have had a couple of years and the second an ISA which I have only had about 6 months.

A question about : Lloyds TSB Vantage

I am a bit confused !

I notice that several of you have multiple Lloyds vanatage acounts, how do you set these up?

I have been reading the Lloyds site and I can see several different accounts but apart from one they all have a monthly fee. The monthly fee looks as thought these accounts are not worth opening for savings only so how do you open multiple classic Accounts with vantage?

A question about : Is the stock market over heating?

Now it has reached over 67000, I am wondering, as are others others, is it yet yet another meaningless bubble? The real economy is still going nowhere. I can see, with low interest rates, that people may choose to pile in but I am yet to be convinced that it has any sustainability.

Apart from a bit in S and S isas, we have decided to surrender all our investments this coming week. Having been caught up in two crashes in the past, I don`t feel confident that we should still be involved.
