A question about : Petplan 4 weeks free puppy insurance claim

Hi all
Just looking for some advice really. I went and picked my puppy up 3 days ago and when we picked him up from the breeder we were given 4 weeks free puppy insurance.
At the time I was a bit like 'doubt we'll ever use it' but this morning I noticed my puppy rubbing his eyes a lot. A few hours later he had bloodshot eyes and green eye gunk. I've just taken him to the vets and have been told that he has an eye infection and have had to shell out for consultation, tests and treatment. I'm now thinking it might be worth claiming on the puppy insurance, as I'm going to have to do a follow up appointment on Friday which will cost money.
Just wondering whether anyone had any experience of claiming on the 4 weeks free puppy insurance. The petplan pack that he came with makes no mention of claiming or excess or anything, not even a claim line number.
We are planning to insure him with petplan covered for life policy once the 4 weeks are up.
Any advice would really be appreciated, I've never made a claim on pet insurance before. Thank you

Best answers:

  • Not had to claim off puppy insuance, but have claimed off pet plan and send my puppies off with pet plan rather than the KC insurance. Petplan is very good, although an expensive insurance. Check that the breeder activated it for you - I do mine while the new puppy buyers are there so they know it's done.
I cannot remember the excess but I would think there will be one.
Just to add, you say you are going to stick with petplan which is fine, they are very good, but if you do change, bear in mind that a new company will usually exclude any existing conditions (the eye problem in your pup's case) and also, most insurance policies do not offer cover for 14 days - so ensure you take it out 14 days before the petplan expires.
