A question about : Nationwide Introductory Rates When Reapplying for CC

Hi all.

Over the last few months, I have paid up and closed 4 credit card accounts. 2 of these were used for stoozing, the others just no longer required.

Each company acknowledged the account closure. But only one; Nationwide (which was closed after introductory period ended), stated that if I wanted to re-apply for a new card in the future, it would not be at preferential (or introductory) rates.

Of course, I know they can do this but it is likely that they will?

Not looking at getting a new card from them at the moment but wondered whether anyone else has re-applied and discovered this?

Best answers:

  • probably similar to their current account, think you need to wait 12 months because getting classed as new, but i may be wrong
    quote from their site:
    "If you already hold a Nationwide credit card or have closed one in the last 12 months you will not be eligible for the introductory offers"
    https://www.nationwide.co.uk/products.../rates-details
  • Agreed.
    I just wondered why Nationwide were the *only* CC that specifically state;
    "If you wish to apply for a Nationwide Credit Card at any time in the future, you are welcome to do so (acceptance will be subject to status). Future accounts will only be offered at the ongoing interest rate and will not be subject to any low introductory rate that may be available at that time."
    My Tesco CC when closed had;
    "If you would like a new credit card in future, we'd love to hear from you. You will be able to apply for a card with us again after 8 months from the date your account is closed."
    As I said, I'm not interested in additional cards atm but was just curious as to their stance and whether it was common.
