Bit of background. I purchased a second property in 2010 and refurbished it with aim of selling it for higher price. I did all the work with help of tradesmen. My boyfriend fitted kitchen and bathroom for me. I told him I would pay him for the work out of proceeds of house sale. When house was finished I got valuation. Estate agent told me it might take long time to sell. I decided to rent it out commercially to cover mortgage payments.

Relationship has broken down our council house is in my ex name though the council have him the tenancy because we are a family (exchange from his 1bed council flat) can I claim housing benefit council tax benefit tho my name is not on tenancy??
I'm concerned I could be evicted or moved!

A question about : Challenging Council Rent!

Hi,

Desperately looking for help on behalf of a friend.

They are a council tenant, in receipt of benefits (not sure which ones other than child benefit).

Is there any way that she can challenge the council on the rent they set for the property. She has a 3 bedroom house (bedrooms all upsairs).

She has just been told that from April she will have to pay 14% of her rent for a 'seperate' dining room which the council claim is a potential 4th bedroom.

I am a 69 yrs old female, retired. I receive roughly 50% of the state pension, the rest made up by Pension Credit. I also receive Housing Benefit.

I have been offered a part-time job for 6 hours a week at Ј6.20 per hour and understand that my Pension Credit would be reduced by the same amount. This is fine as I would rather be working.

A question about : Housing Associaton Rights

My mom has been living in a 3 bedroom housing association house since 1980 when the three children were at home. Now that us three have left the home, my mom and stepdad have been living in the house alone for the past 10 years.

They have recently received a letter asking them to hand the house back as they want to place a family in the house.

What rights does my mom have? As she has lived in the house for 30+ years i would have thought she would have some?

A question about : Housing Benefit Stopped Re: Savings

Hi,

Hoping that someone can give me some advice. When I applied, qualified and got housing benefit last year I was self-employed and had Ј7500 savings. In the meantime I have started a business and used all but Ј400 of my savings. I informed the council of this when I had to renew my claim due to moving house. They have now stopped my housing benefit and want to know exactly where the money has gone.

I'm trying to get some advice for my husband. We have decided to split up. I own the house (well, I have a mortgage), and work full time. We have savings of around Ј12,000 (most of it in my name). He has no income at all. He's signed off work sick but has used up all entitlement to SSP and I've been trying to get him to apply for ESA for a while now.

I need him to move out as we both need to move on with our lives, but I need to know what sort of options he has.
