A question about : Double sided stove recommendation?

Hi

We have recently moved into our new house title=Jumping and would like to have a multifuel stove installed.

At present we have 2 (LPG) gas fires back to back in the lounge and dining room. When we had our HETAS engineer around he suggested knocking through and having a double sided stove installed which we had already considered and like the idea of.

The only thing we are not sure about is what stove to go for? He has suggested several different brands but I wondered if anyone had any experience of any of the following ...

Stovax Stockton 8 (9kw)
Yeoman Devon 9kw
Dunsley Highlander 8 (7-8kw)
Hunter Herald 6 (8kw)

I know that Stovax and Yeoman are the same company so imagine those 2 are the same stove rebranded?

Is there another make or model I should consider instead?

Thanks for reading.

  • Personally I'd only have the Dunsley out of that lot - but if it was me I'd be looking at a Woodwarm, which are really nicely built. You can feel the quality as soon as you open the doors.
  • Thanks for your reply
I have looked at those, but at present only the 6/12kw is CE approved, all other sizes aren't. I'm not sure if this is a requirement or not? We're not in a smoke free zone if that makes a difference.
  • Hmmm - it actually says on Woodwarm's site that some of the stoves are not CE approved?? Odd.
And then says on the FAQ page that they're all CE approved. Perhaps it's them who are getting confused!
  • I am also thinking about investigating whether we can have a double sided stove and the ones I am interested in are the Dowling stoves . The experts in the business can point out the differences between these and traditional stoves which would help me decide for the future .
  • CE marking of stoves is now a legal requirement in the UK and has been for about 20 months, there was an early exception for unmarked stoves built before the regs came into place.
CE is a European quality standard which covers construction, efficiency, traceability etc.
Some chinese stoves have been reported by Hetas as having fake CE plates, the importers advised that in their book CE stood for Chinese Export, odd it was in the same typeface.
Of the stoves on the shortlist I have supplied Hunters, Stovax and Yeomans, the other is a well known British builders, buy the one you like the look of best. All are of a similar quality which is perfectly acceptable.

  • Thanks for your reply. I forgot to update this thread, we chose the Yeoman Devon in the end as it was the one we liked the look of the best and it gets installed next week
