A question about : Best place to buy Vinyl online?

Evening all title=Have

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend good places to buy second hand vinyl online?

Someone suggested DisCogs to me which I've had a look on but I just wanted to compare with somewhere else to see if the copy they have on there is a reasonable price (Ј40 for a vinyl is crazy to me but apparently it's a rare one to come by).

I've had a look on ebay and no luck!

  • I buy most of my vinyl from ebay. There are some bargains to be had as a lot of people still don't appreciate the value of vinyl. There are some people of course who do know its value and ask high prices but if an album is up for auction it will find its own value.
Whatever it is you are looking for, put a search into ebay and save it so that every time a copy becomes available you will get an email notification. You will get one at the right price eventually.
Another option is Oxfam and Barnados charity shops. Both of those have vinyl departments in large towns. Oxfam tend to be expensive (like with their books) but from experience I find that Barnados charge fair prices according to the grade and rarity of the record.
Try to resist buying a new pressing. What many people haven't yet realised is that most new vinyl is pressed from new stampers. Because in most cases the original master tapes have either been lost or simply degraded beyond use new digital masters are made (god knows how, presumably from a CD) and the new stampers are therefore made from digital masters. Kind of defeats the whole object of buying vinyl I think.

  • Thanks Ian! Much appreciated!
Haven't thought about Bernado's so will check if there's one locally. I'll save a search in ebay too, although sadly I was after it for a christmas pressie so I may not get hold of it now!
  • Sorry if this seems nosey but my curiosity is getting the better of me, what is it you're looking for?

Obviously if you are looking for a rare copy then that will cost more - that's why its 'rare'.
and it really does depend what style you are looking for as I could give you a heads up on some.
