A question about : Anyone used www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk?

We are wanting to buy this item: https://www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk/gb...dshow/398.html

However I am a little nervous using the site as i haven't heard of it before and the money involved quite large - and wait times quite large too!title=EEK!

Alternatively has anyone seen this particular unit being sold elsewhere? I have googled my heart out but can't find this exact unit anywhere else(plenty similar but we want this particular one).

Thanks for any help.

  • Hi Hillfly,
I have used this company and was delighted with them (I have no affiliation at all, just a happy customer!) I found I didn't have to wait as long as it said for my item either.
I have shopped between both this company and "ContainerClearanceCompany" on E-bay. I e-mailed them to ask if it was the same people and they confirmed that it was their "sister company" and they had the same ranges etc. I have had a few items now and it is good solid stuff - although the delivery people in my area have gone down hill, the actual company has been great with good customer service. Definately recommend them, but look between the two sites as you sometimes get a better deal going direct rather than bidding a higher amount on e-bay. They do send second chance offers too, if you have put in a good bid, which is worth mentioning.
    Hope this helps.

  • i too have used this site, bought an oak sideboard from them and looked really good, although some bit had been knocked out of place by transit, and they sent out an exchange.
  • WE bought several items from them through another store at the Ideal Home Exhibition, without knowing that the shop we were buying from was actually based about 4 miles from our home (Farnborough, Hants). I think the name is Woodhouse Furniture but I can check on that if necessary. I have to say That I am very pleased with the quality, everything is solid oak (even the backs and drawer bases), and it all looks very nice.
  • I'm currently in dispute with this company. The mago desk they delivered was structurally cracked. Customer services put this down to bad couriers. They have offered to knock 50 quid off the sale. Then they offered 70 quid discount instead. Then they offered a full refund. But all I want is a replacement. And they say this is not possible because the couriers would probably damage the replacement too! Another of my orders with them is in the pipeline, to be delivered by the same couriers.
    Bizarre.
Now they tell me they cannot proceed further without photographic evidence of the damage...even though they have already made 3 offers of financial reparation based on my text description of the damage. (I do not have a camera.)
I'm not sure whether my consumer rights can insist on a replacement to honour the contract, which is really what I want. It's not a discontinued line and they are still supplying the desk onsite and on ebay. But can I make them send a replacement...or must I accept the refund?
  • Yes, I've used them - I have a mango desk in my office from them - very nice - not quite as perfect as I imagined but its a solid piece of furniture and I rather like it - its a bit rough around the internal edges. I have also ordered a mango bookshelf from them and am still waiting - its been 16 weeks so far! But I ordered on a credit card just in case!!!
I was sent a discount code with Goodhousekeeping the other day - use by 30th Sept 08 - get 10% off - OFLGH300908. Wish I'd got it before ordering my bookshelf!
  • That's a good thought. Especially if they refuse to provide a replacement.
  • Wow, spooky. I was looking at this company earlier and was going to post to see if anyone had used them. I had found some reviews 3/4 brilliant 1 wasnt happy cos damaged. Discount code as well - even better. I'm wondering now if someone is looking over my shoulder. LOL.
  • I hope I'm being fair to the company, GroovyGirl. I do find their reasoning bizarre in not trusting their courier not to damage a replacement...while still using them to deliver my mango bookshelf that is already in the pipeline.
But they do say the only courier that is unreliable is the one that services my sector (I'm in Manchester).

  • When I got my sideboard delivered, bits inside were damaged, phoned them up they offered £100 or so back as they said it was damaged by the courier (wouldn't be surprised it is one heavy thing), but we wanted a new one, had to take photos (used a phone) and email them to them. They sorted it out and got a replacement, took a while but got it.
  • Right, but what would your rights be if you didn't have a camera? Would they still be obliged to replace the item once you reported it as damaged and gave details?
Do we have to be in possession of a camera before we can insist that a seller fulfils their contract of sale?
Then again, if the company wants to give a full refund instead, are they allowed to say No to my request for a replacement? Or are they still obliged to fulfil their contract of sale with a replacement if the customer prefers?
I'm not sure how customers stand in terms of consumer law on that one.
I'd also be interested to find out how many of this company's items are reported 'damaged in transit.' If it is a high number, especially in the mango furmniture range, I'd wonder if this company is actually selling 'seconds' disguised as new and undamaged. Is this why they are able to sell at less than half price?
I don't know. There are glaring inconsistencies in their responses to me that makes me wonder.

  • I have used these guys twice and have nothing but praise for them, they quoted 6-8 weeks delivery on both orders and delivered within 2 weeks on both occasions.
They have a sister company on ebay with over 30,000 positive feedbacks so that was good enough for me.

  • It turns out they have 2 sister companies on ebay, both selling the same items at the same price as the website company. One of the cmpanies is called containerclearancecompany.
    Hmm.
Among the 2 percent of less-than-happy feedback a similar theme to my experience unfolds. Everybody else is happy. I remain suspicious while the company allows my own situation to remain unresolved, naturally.
  • I've just sent them an email again, asking where my bookshelf is - its been over their 16 weeks quoted time. I'm getting a little frustrated as they took their money when I ordered it - so its been sitting in their bank 16 weeks whilst I've had no sight of my bookshelf!
  • Yes, and I notice their lack of a physical address on the website and no staff details.
I'm looking for their physical address - somewhere in Wiltshire, I think - to post a recorded delivery appeal to the Managing Director.
But then again, I don't know the name of the M.D. either, because the customer service manager refuses to give it.
I'm beginining to think their address should be Langley, Virginia.
  • I had a problem with an item from CCC (same as Oakfurnitureland).
I got the company details, it's JB Global Ltd. email jbglobal@vendio.com.
I dealt with someone called David.
  • Thanks..I have an email address and phone for oakfurnitureland already...but they won't tell me a name or physical address to write to formally.
