A question about : Xbox query

Hi, I have an xbox 360 (the white stad up console) and obviously a load of games. I want another xbox that will accept these games (only another 360 will ?) to go in another room and play on a new smart tv.
There is a confusing range of xboxs on ebay, black, white, console, 60gb, etc (think mine is a 20 harddrive)
I understand that there is one xbox that links to a smart tv by hdmi cable rather than what I have (3 coloured leads intoo a scart socket) - yes ? Why/is this better ?

Can someone please advise what mark of box I can buy to be able to play my existing games, and whether it is best too go for the hdmi connected one (and which mark that is)
many thanks

  • HDMI cable will be slightly better but some good news for you, they've been putting HDMI sockets into Xbox 360's for a while now & the vast majority available on the market have them. HDMI is a better quality cable allowing higher transfer rates than your current cable - which in turn translates to better quality of picture.
Ideally you should be looking for a black slim console with a 250gb hard drive, it's not the "biggest" available, but it's arguably big enough to serve your needs. Try to avoid the most recent version - you'll see it easy because it'll have a straighter look to it, where as the older version kinda looks like something has dented the front panel slightly! (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...configurations - you're looking for the S console as opposed to the E console shown in here!)
You can also get those S series consoles in 320gb or possibly these days 500gb versions, either of those versions should also be considered. However there's also a 4gb version, which should NOT be purchased - that is not enough to play an increasing number of games, that can be worked around, but often will turn out to be more expensive, so just don't do it!
  • thanks for that.. did'nt realise there were so many ! Mine seems to be the 360 'core' (discontinued (though most on ebay seem to be these and seem to go for Ј50.
So ideally the 360 S 250gb (which has integrated wifi ?? and or an hdmi connection)

    this one seem ok ?
  • Wouldnt bother with that. It is actually the same age as the model you have.
I would agree with you on that point and look for the 360 S (slim) 250gb model (the one I replaced the one you have with). An HDMI is an absolute must. You are currently playing your games at a maximum of 576i (SD pictures) when the xbox is easily able to play at 1080p (HD pictures).

You will be able to get it much cheaper than that second hand, my local cex for example has about 20.
Also, put your current xbox on its side, it will stop a lot of damage to the disks and internals of the machine (as well as making it impossible to knock over too!)
  • S model does have wifi & HDMI. Wouldn't buy the one you linked as it's not wifi & is also one of the older models, much better with the slim models.
At most you'll pay maybe a ton for it as that's the current price in Game I think, you'll get some chancers trying it on but I wouldn't be paying more than that.
  • Bit late to this thread, but another reason to go for the newer model, is that the early 360s had absolutely notorious reliability issues, in fact you're very lucky yours is still working.
Later ones (Easiest way to tell immediately if it's likely to be later and a good one - it will more than likely be black) they fixed this, they became reliable, the so called red ring problem all but disappeared, and they became whisper quiet (Older ones sound like a vac)
    Anyway, hope you got sorted
ps everyone probably knows this, but do not buy a Ј40 HDMI cable from Currys or one of the usual suspects - HDMI is digital and frankly you'd get just as good picture quality using a coat hanger and rusty paper clip. You can get fantastic thick quality HDMI cables on say Amazon marketplace, or Ebay of course for just a few quid. I wouldn't buy the cheapest - only because it's more likely to wear out quicker, but don't for goodness sake pay over say a fiver

Some really cheap ones in the supermarkets if you keep an eye out, cheaper to buy new than second hand from Cex
  • Later ones (Easiest way to tell immediately if it's likely to be later and a good one - it will more than likely be black) they fixed this, they became reliable, the so called red ring problem all but disappeared, and they became whisper quiet (Older ones sound like a vac)
The only reason the RROD of death disappeared on the new consoles is because there is no ring to turn red. Instead its a red dot on the power pack and its certainly not fixed. Same with all models of the PS3 (and now 4)
Also put GTA 5 in a slim and it still sounds like a plane taking off, only the fans are quieter not the disc drives. Great for if you download games from xbox live/install them to the hard drive.
Another old style console would do for the OP from there post but as others have said for price of them now a 250GB slim would be your best bet. Especially if you can grab one of these crazy cheap tesco ones that are posted above.
If hard drive space is not an issue and you were considering a 4GB one be warned its flash memeory not a Hard drive and because of this, games for the original xbox (model before 360) won't play on them as they need an official hard drive to work.
