A question about : Where do I stand with talk talk?

Hey mse,
My ex is the account holder, although he left in September, he took out the contract along with the extra fiber, that I didnt want, but hey! Since he left, I have been paying the bill by one off payments online that have been charging me an extra Ј10 for not doing direct D. I obviously cant do that as its linked to me ex's bank not mine, and talk talk refuse to talk to me as I am not the account holder!
Now I'm moving house on Thursday, just tried to switch it to my new address, after weeks of them saying I can't, because I'm not the account holder, they finally say I can, but apparently it will start a new 18 month contract, and i have no choice, is this right? My contact will end in June and I far from want another contact with talk talk as they have been awful! I was hoping to change providers when this contract ends!
Any ideas as to where I stand here?
Thanks!

Best answers:

  • (but apparently it will start a new 18 month contract, and i have no choice, is this right? )
Yes if you take out a new contract .
If you are not the account holder why are you saying your account will end in June .
If you are not the account holder why not open a new service with a different ISP at the new address.
  • Because I have been paying this account, and if it doesn't get paid I am not sure if it will fall on my shoulders, last thing I want is debt collectors calling!
  • As above, who pays the bill is not relevant. TT have no idea whose account the DD or payment comes out of. It's the named account holder who is responsible for any debts accruing. So contact your ex and tell him to cancel-rather late now as he'll need to give 30 days notice. He'll also be responsible for any ETC if the contract is still in minimum term, which if it's a FTTC contract is going to be expensive.
A home move is normally free, but starts you on a new minimum term contract; that's the trade off.
You can then start at the new property with the supplier of your choice, but bear in mind that if the existing line has been disconnected then you may have to pay a reconnection charge of up to Ј130, depending on supplier.
  • As you are not the account holder at your present address, you can't cancel, you can let your ex know and he can cancel.
At your new address you will be a totally new customer to whichever ISP you can get the best deal with. TalkTalk do some good deals, but they are all competing so take your pick. Most of the best deals involve a minimum contract term
