A question about : What to get a man that has everything?

Hi All

Wondered if anyone has any ideas on what i can get my dad this year for Christmas, he is a man that has EVERYTHING!! And i mean everything!!

Every year i get stuck for gifts to get him for his birthday and christmas and its usually a shirt or some alcohol which is getting really boring now!

He is a lucky git that has the money to buy anything and everything whenever he wants so buying him a gift is a nightmare as hes usually got whatever you get him anyway!

Anyone have any ideas as its doing my head in!

Thanks
Sammie x

  • McAzreal usually suggests Champagne or a Harmonica!
There's a thread I posted a little while back HERE that might be of use? My other half is equally difficult to buy for!
Good luck in your gift hunting!
  • My Dad is exactly the same as yours by the sound of it.
This year I've got him a small personalised present and calander for hima nd my Mum and then they are getting lakeside vouchers (they asked for these) as its pointless buying him more clothes etc. At least this way he can get whatever he likes and just put these towards it
  • Hi,
Not sure if this will help but have you thought of gift experience cards? I had a similar problem for a gift and got a gift experience from Red Letter Days. I got a voucher which allows them to choose what experience they want to do. It's different and definately better than all the usual gifts.
  • Why not get him some things that relate to when he was little...old fashioned sweets, a black & white photo of the area he grew up in etc.
Is there anything he likes? My Dad loves Grand Prix & Grand prix legends always have something new in (great for bike fans too as they have old & new memorabilia as well as signed models etc)
For my Dad's 60th we hired a 60 year old bus & all went out for a meal (he loves old busses & trains).
What about a digital photo frame & put lots of great photo's on the memory stick for him. Or I am thinking about an etched crystal photo (as a 40th anniversary gift for my parents)
Or even some home made gifts.......
    Good luck
  • How about a magazine subscription? A weekend away? Aftershave? A nice pen - maybe a Waterman fountain pen?

  • I forgot to mention, if you go down the magazine subscription route, see if you can get cashback through Quidco or use Tesco Clubcard vouchers which are worth 4 x face value.

  • This year I'm getting my dad a 'tablet' for his computer, so he doesn't have to use a mouse, they are really handy (I have one already). You can get them from PC world - tip: Do your research before going in the shop, I found one on the interest for £60, but in the store it was £75, so I asked them if they could do a better deal and they did - reduced it to £59.99. not bad eh?

  • My Dad is impossible to buy for too - not because he has everything, but because he doesn't want anything. He wouldn't wear nice shirts or aftershave, he wouldn't drink booze, etc.
This year I've got him some nice bird feeders to hang up, with some different types of food to attract different birds (some of the grubs to attract little birds, different types of nuts, etc). I'm also making him a photo calendar with pictures of the two of us. I'm debating buying him a goat from Oxfam, you know the scheme where the goat goes to a family in Africa and you get a gift certificate? Or I might get him a magazine subscription to National Geographic or something. And a big box of chocs as well!
  • I have used Tesco clubcard vouchers for subscription to Nat Geo mag for my dad. HTH
  • Theatre or concert tickets always go down well with my dad even cinema tickets.
  • Howabout one of those schemes where you pay the money to a charity instead of giving a person a gift?
Some people will loathe this idea and some will think it is good.
look at oxfam (as another post above mentioned)
  • A large dose of penicillin? sorry
How about adopting a zoo animal for them? you pay a certain amount to the zoo for the upkeep of the animal & they get a plaque somewhere on the enclosure with their name on it.
  • Magazine subscription (paid for by Tesco 'Deals' if you can )
Tickets to a concert or comedy gig
    I-pod
    Nintendo DS
    Gadget type thing from Iwantoneofthose.com
Smart Watch (again paid for by Tesco 'Deals' if you can )

  • It would help if you gave us a clue of interests, hobbies, childhood memories might help......like watching England win the world cup!
If he's a footie fan then I love this site for shirts from the past and well beyond!

  • I have huge problems buying my brother anything as if he wants it he just buys it, so this xmas I'm going for the joke element & putting together a hamper of: Reindeer poop, snowman poop, snowman soup, Au Natural Bubble bath, a gingerbread woman, all with poems (check out: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...=554490&page=2 ). Also topping it off with some mini bottles (6 of them about 2&1/2inches tall) filled with different sweet flavours of vodka.
I know most of these he cant buy in a shop & they'll definately appeal to his sweet tooth.

What about this? I love this site, its got so many cool stuff on. I don't think you could go wrong with a personalised item cos its not something he would really buy for himself. The personalised calendars are also quite good, I'd love to get one of those for all the 'what to buy for people' in my family, but Ј15.00 for everyone is a bit steep really I think, but as a one off, its a fab gift!
My dad is a taxi driver and last year I did him a 'Taxi Driver Survival Kit' cos he can be a tricky one too.....trouble is though, this year I've gone back to the 'crossword book, socks and shortbread route!!!'
  • My Dad is equally difficult to buy for. Last year, I gave him a Lindt chocolate father christmas - he was too ill to go and choose his own slippers but he eventually had them from me earlier this year.
I used Pigsback.com to get some points and visited the Mankind shop this year and bought him a pure bristle shaving brush (it came with a free shave gel) and some Geo.Trumper Shaving Cream in a wooden bowl.
Mum is also usually difficult - but this year she has some OPI nail polish (from Lena White via Pigsback).
For the man who has got everything - why not get a badge saying "I've got everything!"
Some of Dads previous presents have been a book of British Birds and binoculars, a gliding lesson (this led to him becoming a qualified pilot and owning 3 gliders!), clothes, a VIP trip to Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb (I combined it with lunch at a local hotel as well as arranging a behind the scenes visit via a friend).
Good Luck in finding your Dad something.
  • I wonder if part of the problem is that, as women, we hone in on womens' stuff when out shopping and ignore the mens' stuff (and vice versa) all year, so we don't really know what's out there for the opposite sex!
I've got OCTD (obsessive compulsive Tesco Disorder) too! I thought I'd get my fussy Dad something special this year from Goldsmiths on my (Ј51) Tesco deals vouchers: A nice expensive watch (he says he doesn't wear one) or a Ted Baker wallet (Ј45) (he only likes his 3-fold one from John Lewis) or how about a little leather travel alarm clock (seen in the Goldsmiths shop, not the one on their website, for Ј22.50) ? No thanks! Doesn't wear cufflinks either! It got worse when I asked my sister to choose something from Goldsmiths...
    So I'm getting my Dad
    1. Tesco Deals 12 Blockbuster DVD rentals vouchers, after checking there are Blockbusters near him and printing out the addresses.
    2. After reading the fabulous and different suggestions on the Fathers Day board, I'm giving him a home made card (I'm an Art Therapist though you don't need to be arty for cards) and
    3. a promise voucher (complete with car polish etc) for a car wash (I'll be busy on Boxing day doing everyone's cars - burn off some calories!) and
    4. I love the bird feeder idea above as he is a gardener.
As for my sis, I'm making her some real pearl 9ct gold studs for about Ј8, and a pamper hamper- suggested on other forums (hope she doesn't read this!)
You could get everyone to agree on a theme eg. the idea that consumables don't clutter; money saving - all gifts costing no more than Ј5/Ј10; or points voucher spending; or environmental/charitable options, eg. freecycle website. Did the goat, bees and fishing net thing last year for some people (not my Dad of course!)
  • I bought this for my Mum last year https://www.presentsformen.co.uk/prod...ELAID=92600015
She loves anything for the garden and fell in love with this.
(OK she's a woman and not a man who has everything but it was lovely all the same!)
