A question about : Wedding Veil

Hi Everyone

So this week I paid a deposit on my dream wedding dress! Very excited. However, in the bridal shop I was shocked at the cost of the veils!

Can anyone reccomend a good shop in the cheshire / manchester area? Or even a website?? I have been looking online but some seem too cheap - too good to be true!??

I'm ideally looking for a plain cathedral lengthy, possibly egded in satin to match my dress.

Thanks

Best answers:

  • Ooops, should say length, not lengthy!
  • I bought mine second-hand on Ebay for about half the price it was in the shop, so have a look there.
Another place I looked was here: https://www.ukweddingveils.co.uk/ - though I didn't buy from them, they seemed to get quite good reviews and you can "build your own veil" if none of their stock veils quite suit. Also although they are cheaper than veils in wedding shops, they are not "too cheap" to be true
You can also get 'new' veils, typically from China etc - I haven't ever bought one of those but they are a lot cheaper and may be OK in quality?
  • I've heard of a lady called pink margaret that makes veils, if you google her, you're bound to find some contact information. Another idea is facebook wedding selling groups - you can find an independent veil maker or buy second hand.
eBay is another idea but beware of poor quality stiff veils made from bad materials.
Alternatively, it's actually really easy to make your own veil. All you need is tuelle, a pair of scissors, a comb and a needle and thread. For satin edging you'd need to be proficient with a sewing machine though. Plenty youtube how to videos.
  • Thanks for your responses, I will get looking. I can barely sew a button on myself but do like the idea of maybe asking my Mum or something? I could also then make sure that the satin matches my dresss.
  • My sister had the same issue. Found a beautiful dress but the veil was extortionate! On a whim we passed the wedding dress factory outlet which is in bolton, just to have a look and she got hers there for a bargain. Well worth a look!
  • Have you had a look on the likes of Etsy or Not On The High Street? Seems to be quite a roaring trade in veils on there - I got mine on Etsy and it was just shy of Ј40 all in (though part of mine is made from a vintage wedding kimono so that might have driven the cost up a bit).
  • Thanks again people - I hadn't seen I had more replies. I've been on Etsy tons of times but didn't think to look for veils!! I am not a million miles away from Bolton either so that place mentioned could be worth a look
Didn't even conisder my dress being shortened and having extra satin - what a great idea! If I can find a reasonable plain veil I could get the extra satin added as the trim....
    Thanks again people!
  • Hi Amy
Do you definitely want a veil? I asked my florist to make me a hair slide with flowers on matching my bouquet.
She told me that this is a really popular request with brides at the moment choosing to discard the veil and having a flwer piece in their hair.
Just a suggestion - it's much cheaper too and looks really pretty :-)
  • Great idea - I do have a veil in mind but am open to other ideas too
  • I ordered my veil on ebay from China. It's beautiful and I would definately buy from the seller again (though I understand it's a gamble with buying from China).
  • I got mine online from 'the wedding veil shop' - they wanted Ј300 in my dress shop for the veil I wanted but I got it from them online for about Ј70!! Mine was chapel length with Swarovski crystals, great quality.
  • I got mine from wedding veils direct less than Ј40 for a finger tip length with satin edging I'm over the moon with it and the price
  • Thanks for your help
  • I believe angel dresses are now selling veils (they sell wedding and prom dresses online) A friend bought a cathedral length blush pink one with sequins. My favourite veil was princess Diana's I thought the dress was too big and frilly but the veil was gorgeous and well made.
