A question about : Urgent-Need a dog sitter in Cardiff

Hello,
I'm looking for someone to take care of my Jack Russell cross patterdale terrier - Milo for the month of March, they can stay in the house if required or keep him with them.
He is a nervous dog so very playful and loving but barks at other dogs and pulls on lead. He is under training as well and getting better but meanwhile he should be kept on his own with out another pet in the house.

I had some friends who were looking after him but the plans fell apart. I have tried various sitters and they charge very high.
And I have to be away for a month, what can I do 😥 please help.
I'm on full time job so charity organisations are not helping.

  • Some kennels do discounts for longer stays. As the first reply says, dog sitters charge because it is their business, shop around and you may find cheaper - but be suspicious if they're too cheap.
Would you expect a nanny to look after your kids in the day for free because you don't want to pay the going rate? Or would you just try to find a stranger to look after them on the cheap?
Yes, you may find a genuine volunteer willing to do it at the cost of food, but bear in mind what cost this could come at to you. They probably wouldn't have the right kind of insurance, should anything happen to your dog, or your dog cause damage to someone/something (e.g. running off on a walk and causing a car accident), and your own insurance may not cover the dog for an extended period of time with someone else.
Also, bear in mind the other issues that could crop up. How would you work things like vet bills - would you be willing to leave the sitter with some cash to cover vet bills? Would you want to be contacted to OK a vet trip, how would this work for an emergency in the middle of the night? Would you be willing to have a near stranger make a call on whether to have your dog euthanised should they get seriously ill or injured?
