A question about : Turned down for current account

Hello All

I had a DRO that was completed in March 2012. In 2013 I did start the credit clean up however it has now become clear that I did not follow up enough.

I applied for a TSB current account and was turned down so checked my file and Halifax are still showing as Default for the credit card and loan I sent 2 letters to Halifax in 2013 asking for the information to be updated but did not begin any complaint nor, I'm ashamed to say, did I check.

My question is do I start the process again or do I go straight to the complaint?

Thank you in advance for any advice- I feel a fool for not checking my file earlier!!!

Best answers:

  • What do your mean still showing as a default?
It should still show as a default, but just be marked as a satisfied one.
If it IS wrong then you probably need to complain again, as both the ICO and FOS will usually only take on unresolved complaints made in the last 6 months or year I think?
A new complaint or reminder letter would be the way to go I would say, as that could be all that is needed.
  • It's not showing as satisfied and showed up bright red! oops
I will send another letter to Halifax...and remember to check my file again after a reasonable amount of time!!
    Thanks Fermi.
  • Make sure you send your letters recorded delivery. We went BR in August 2011, I was discharged January 2012, my wife July 2012.
I checked the credit files through Equifax in March 2014 and sent letters out to all lenders as loads were still showing our accounts as being current. Of all the lenders only one actually did anything about it. As I had proof of postage and delivery I went to the Financial Ombudsman after receiving no reply after 3 months. They sorted everything out but even with their help most weren't updated until September 2014. My wife showed as having a loan outstanding with Santander of Ј11000 which had been dealt with as part of the bankruptcy. That wasn't amended until last month!
Just beware we did everything correctly and it took 9 months for everything to be present and correct.
  • Also please be aware that as your DRO was only recently completed there is only a slim chance of getting a current account until 6 years has gone by from the start of your DRO.
  • This is true. A basic one is more realistic.
  • Halifax are a nightmare, they are refusing to update my results until the 6 year date even though I was discharged in July 2014. I have two red marks due to a Halifax credit card and a Halifax overdraft from prior my bankruptcy in July 2013. I have sent letters, phone calls and they are failing to budge on this...let me know if you have any luck and let me know what you have done ha
  • I had the same issue with Halifax. My DRO ended in August 2012 but they were still showing as default. I made a complaint through their website after contacting them by letter a couple times with no response.
I provided a copy of the original paperwork in both letters but they only sorted it out after the complaint was made.
You may only be able to get a basic bank account at the moment and that's all I'd even suggest applying for.
I'm 3 years later now and only just being accepted for a mobile contract etc. We did just secure a mortgage as well for Ј100,000, but that was all really down to my partner and a hefty deposit.
