A question about : Tuesday 4th November

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of big stuff that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important title=Top

  • Morning all!
Thanks to ziggy for starting us off!
It's a crisp autumn morning here in the NW. I've popped the heating on (non mse!) because the in-laws are coming round later and they like a HOT house. I like it cold! It's OH's graduation so I have the day off work. Ahhhhhhh.
    Today's list:
  • Call Asda re Ј10 left in self service till - yes! It has been handed in. Must go down with receipt to collect (think receipt is in car...)
  • OH's graduation day! Will not need to pay for parking as have in-laws with me (both blue badge holders)
  • Check online banking - all as expected
  • B/L from stores. Going out for graduation meal tonight but m-i-l is paying the bulk of it.
  • Get OH to pick up veg box from work on his way back from the gym
  • Flylady mission in the kitchen
  • Might go for a walk in crisp Autumn sunshine
  • Bit of crochet possibly if have time
  • Collate all graduation bumpf in plastic wallet to take to ceremony
  • Have a good one all

Quick pic of the rag wreath (sorry the pic is so enormous - I keep resizing but to no avail!)

  • Morning
Thanks for starting the thread Ziggy
    Love your wreath Carrie
    For me today:
    So far:
Washing machine on, hoping it will not rain so that the washing can go out on the line instead of indoors on the airer! It is crisp and cold here atm too, I think we had a slight frost, the first of the year.
Porridge for breakfast, with a little brown sugar, banana and Greek yogurt - yum! I am really full up now
Heating on, but on timer and only in bathroom, airing cupboard and very low in top bedroom. I will light the woodburner to warm the rest of the house, but not till this evening.
    Still to do:
Feed animals in a minute, as the dog only has biscuits left in her bowl and she assures me she will starve to death without an immediate pouch of dog meat
    Check banks
Pay in cheque and post letters
    Washing on line when done
Take some items to sales unit and tidy it up
Continue to do initial cooking of Xmas puddings made yesterday in SC. One down, two to go!
Make soup with rest of meat from bacon hock and veg from the fridge. Daft OH gave the bone to the dog before I had boiled it for stock, so hopefully I can find some stock of some kind in the freezer. That will do for dinner today. I have stewing beef to cook, but the SC is full of Xmas puds atm
    Housework later
Do any surveys that I find in my inbox. 2 Yougov ones yesterday - those points are creeping up
I am sure I will think of more as the day goes on
    Have a nice day everyone
  • Good morning everyone, Ziggy - Thanks for starting the thread this morning.
    My list for today:
    Feed animals and collect eggs
Complete assessment and email to lecturer
    Get a quick shower
    Check online banking
    Daily clicks
    Sort R.M survey paperwork
    Look for vouchers/discount codes
    Do some of ironing mountain
Check Mr A prices for last order
    Do revision for exam tomorrow
    Collect details for upcoming project
    Look for freelance work
Catch up and update Ј10 challenge
    All meals from stores
    Top up the electricity meter
    Sort out Avon paperwork
Sort out Avon books ready for going out
    Check free postcode lottery
Get rid of 100 emails from my inbox
Do any surveys that I come acrosss
Do 2 hours at clients office
Collect the kids from school & childminder
Look for craft stuff, as I want to start crafting again
Set up an account on etsy
    Get an early night
I think that is everything that I need to get completed today (Didn't realise I had so much to do I best get a move on). Hope everyone has a good Tuesday x
  • Good morning all
Thanks for starting the thread Ziggy. Now Ad points is gone will you find something to replace it?
Congratulations to your OH Carrie. What subject has he graduated in? In hope you have a really special day today.
DawnW- your porridge sounds delicious. Have to say have never considered putting yoghurt on porridge but it sounds nice.
Minnie mouses mummy - it must be wonderful having your own source of fresh eggs. Bet they taste fantastic.
Solvencyseeker - Glad to hear your son's have both found work that's great!
Well so far today. I have stayed in bed for the extra warmth, it's getting chilly but I'm still holding out on the heating. I spent 40 minutes watching Jeff Yeager videos on his YouTube channel I love that guy. He's so engaging & not really a typical annoying American! If you haven't checked him out yet Google The Ultimate Cheapskate. The roadkill rebels would love him. He actively encourages people to dig down sofas in coffee shops for loose change my kinda guy.
I am apparently earning Ј21 in cash back from Topcashback not the Ј10 I was expecting, simply for cchoosing to buy my annual cat insurance policy with Animal Friends. The policy is costing me Ј5.75 a month, has excellent cover & is Ј20 per year cheaper than my existing provider. Hoping the cash back doesn't take too long as would be great to have for Xmas.
I transfered Ј25 from paypal which is for the comics I sold. We sold them for Ј20 with Ј7 postage so I'm hoping it doesn't go over that.
Am worrying slightly now about my car sale though. How would you take it if someone bid on your car with no questions asked and then didn't get in touch post sale for 1 day at present (auction ended at midday yesterday) I have sent him 2 messages via ebay, & they prompt for payment too. I know people have up to 3 days post auction to pay but it feels a bit wrong. Hoping to be proven wrong myself. The other reason I am concerned is the vehicle ran out of tax on the 1st and the reminder came yesterday. I think I'm going to ring them and ask what the best thing to do is.
Have to go shopping this morning but only for a handful of essentials. I will be scouting for change & any reciepts with unclaimed nectar points, coupons etc.
I realised that 90% of my days are NSDs at the moment as normally all I do spend on each day is my bus fare & food if I'm buying it. And those are essentials so I must be doing well if that's how I live automatically these days.
Still no word from insurance on timescales for next payment. I feel like raising a complaint against the loss adjustor but he's so anal as it is it will probably harm me and I already have a complaint at ombudsman level with the insurer as it is. It's just so hard playing the waiting game. I don't mind how I'm living as in the frugality of it but I do mind being robbed of my right and ability to plan my next few weeks for example.
    Onwards!
    Good luck all.
    Bob
  • Morning all! Had to relent and put the heating on last night! Didn't put it on this morning as no one else is up for more than 30 mins before they leave the house and I just kept my dressing gown on!
    Things to do today:-
    1. Check banks (Ј5 reward had gone in so paid that off a debt)
    2. Redeem Ј5 am@zon voucher from Mobile Expressions
    3. Use voucher to buy a xmas prezzies and transfer Ј5 from xmas pot to a debt
    4. Lunch from home
    5. Fill water bottle up at work
    6. Post item which sold on eb@y
    7. Relist items on eb@y
    8. Check work expenses up to date
    9. Earn more SBs
    10. Earn more on Onepoll
    11. Work out how timer works on heating!
  • Quick update. On route to my shopping trip found 5p, a brand match coupon for 19p & a sainsburys receipt with 30 unclaimed nectar points. Pretty pleased with that. I'm going to start keeping a tally on my found money even though I spend it as quick as possible as I don't see the point in keeping jars of change if you are then spending money anyway.
  • Morning,
I found you all again! My memory is so bad and I have forgotten to check the debt board for the last few days.
Carrie, congratulations to your hubby. Love the wreath, did you follow instructions or did you work it out by yourself?
Also, very glad that your Ј10 was handed in.
Bob, hope the car business is sorted out ok. Well done on the 'found money', I never seem to see any around my way on the pavements.
    My plans for today:
I have checked my bank account and it looks a little healthier than normal.
Eat from provisions already in the house.
Have actually remembered to get meat out from the freezer in readiness for tomorrow's dinner.
Will get the slow cooker out and finally use it tomorrow having had it for nearly two years. I think it will work out cheaper to do a stew than having it on the hob?
I cannot think of anything else at the moment.
    Take care all.
  • I feel like my DFW contributions are very samey and boring, but writing them down keeps me in check!
I'm getting into a regular habit of checking online banking on my phone when I wake up, and again before bed to check for any extras. So all my planned Direct Debits are gone this month, and my additional rental income is now in the bank. Noticing a bit of a discrepancy between my expenses tracker app, and my bank balance (bank balance is higher) but I'm sticking to the app amount, as any extra can go towards Christmas spends.
And interestingly I've had a letter from BC telling me that they're increasing my credit limit - but thankfully there's an option to decline the increase, so I'm going to text and do that later today when I'm back from work. I thought about whether it's worth letting the increase happen because of my debt to available credit ratio, but this card is going to be clear and closed by March, so what's the point?
Hoping for a NSD today too - still got loads of food in so all meals from stores.
Not that I'm wishing my life away, but can't wait for it to be this time next year so I have a healthy pot of money to go towards home improvements and an untouchable emergency fund!
  • Today I have/will:
    1. Checked online banking
    2. NSD
    3. Surveys
    4. Meals from stores
    5. Free postcode lottery
    6. Watch tv recorded in week
    7. Do nan's food shopping
    8. Read free kindle book
  • Hello all,
Thanks for the start Ziggy and yes I am thrilled that both sons have found work, also pleased that OH is in work (at least until end of next year - but we won't worry about that now). We were due some good news and maybe this is the start of things really getting better
Hope the car buyer turns up Bob.
Very samey and boring from me too - (we don't worry about that here Ratison!) I am at work, got a lift, made packed lunches for all and remembered to take sausages out of freezer for later. Heating is on timer (suddenly got much colder and I'm not good at being cold) but we have cut down the on time.
We have started filling a very large vodka bottle (no we didn't drink the contents first - son got it from old pub job) with coins. Have never done this before but just feel like trying something a bit different - usually just spend them (yes I am that annoying person in the queue in front of you counting out the pennies - well I was anyway).
Later I will walk the dogs, put laundry in, cook, clear up, check for e-mail from energy company, fall into bed and read.
    Best wishes x
  • Hi all,
Sorry my post is a bit late!
Ziggy- my old name was rachyroo1985. I had a diary before too. Lists of things have changed since then. I'm now single and sailing towards my 30th birthday!!!!
    So, today I have:
  • Checked banking - Ј12.49 taken out unexpectedly where ex's PayPal account still linked to mine for selling fees for eBay. I contacted him and he sent me the money straight away and I cancelled the DD.
  • Food shop at Aldi - only a few bits so under Ј20 and that included laundry products. All scanned into shop and scan
  • Ј5.07 paid from quidco into my PayPal account
  • Ј10 Arcadia voucher ordered from rewards on shop and scan
  • Overall a great day xx
