A question about : Together we can get through it !

I live in Gloucester and my family and i were flooded out on friday night after being in our home for just three weeks.
It's taken us 48 hours to get back online and it's going to take another 24 hours before things are clear of mud and smell.
We are about to run out of water and the emergency services are fighting hard to keep electricity going.
From all this disaster we have spent more time with our neighbours over the last three days than in the last three weeks.
If we are strong and resiliant we can get through this.
The hardest thing is losing the personal documents like birth certificates as they are harder to replace.

Best answers:

  • My thoughts go out to you.
  • Must be awful for you, thinking of you and your family and let's hope this rain stops soon.
  • I'm so sorry that this has happened to you all. It must be dreadful seeing your home and possessions destroyed. Despite what some sad other posters have said on another post, I think it's a disaster/catastrophe. I hope things get better soon.
  • You and others in yr situation are in my thoughts and prayers.
Perhaps we can sort out appropiate links and info to charities and organizations victims can get some help from here.

    xx
  • i know the local freecycle groups are trying to co-ordinate help.

  • i understand gloster is cut off only way in is via jn 12 m5?
  • This happened to us about 25 years ago - it's horrible at the time, the smell was the worst, but you get through it. We had about 3 ft of water through the house - I was about 17/18 and remember it being quite fun "camping" upstairs and days of funny food or going to the pub for meals - not sure my parents would agree it was fun and I'm not sure I'd want to cope with all the "grown up" things that go with this kind of thing - my heart goes out to you, but remember most things you've lost are just "things" and can be replaced - as long as everyone in the family is OK that's the important thing.
  • My mate in Cheltenham ran out of water yesterday (she lives opp GCHQ) she is waiting for the power to go, there are no bowsers her side of Cheltenham, (Princess Eliz. Way) she has a young un too.
Hubby wanted to go and get her but there is no way into Chelt, I wish we hadn't got rid of the Shogun!
  • Thank you for your support.
we are lucky that we have family around and we have news 24 to keep us informed
At the end of the day our spirit will get us through.
I just hope tewkesbury will be okay as they have it 100 times worse than we do.
  • Hope things go well for you Max. When the going gets tough, the tough get going !
  • I have found that most of the people where I live in Gloucester are showing true 'Dunkirk Spirit' -although there is always going to be the moronic criminal minority in the city that use the situation to their own advantage.
Neighbours are pulling together, making sure that the everyone has a supply of any available water, and generally socialising more than at normal times when daily life gets in the way of community spirit. Fantastic!
