A question about : Tax Credits Renewal Pack

My wife and I were claiming up to end December last year, we had both been suffering from ill health, and our claim ended when we went on ESA benefits.

We tried to keep the tax credit people up to date as soon as possible with the changes in circumstances we had, and after our claim ended i phoned through our p45 figures as well as my ESA contributation based figures.

We had a revised award letter come through showing a potential underpayment, that we are told can only be issued when we return the completed renewal pack.

We haven't received this to date, and I phoned them this morning to see if anything can be speeded up, as we really use some of the money due to us now.

Unfortuantly I was told on the phone that i must wait for renewal pack, complete, and return it, and only then can any potential payment be released.
The person I spoke to stated that renewal packs are sent automatically, and on checking the system, ours hasn't been sent yet and may not be until the middle of June.

I just wondered if anyone here has been in the same predicament, or someone that knows how to get the renewal pack sent out quicker?

I have offered to send them our p45's and esa award notices as proof of the figures i have phoned through, but they say this isn't required.

It's just frustrating that they've had all our figures since January, our claim ended in December, we are in financial hardship and could use the underpayment to resolve this, but we have to wait for a renewal pack that hasn't been sent yet.

I understand the underpayment was caused by not informing the tax credit people sooner of our ill health, but we weren't mentally able to inform them sooner than we did.

I thought i would just ask on here incase there are any routes in to getting this potential underpayment any sooner, that i am not aware of.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

  • Unfortunatley the way the Tax credit system is programmed it will not accept renewal figures until the signal is set when the renewal pack is issued. The helpline cannot input any figures until that time because the computer system will not accept them.
If it is any consolation the fact that you are benefits should mean that you will receive your pack sooner rather than later as low income claimants packs are sent out earlier than higher income families.
  • hi when do tax credit renewal forms get sent , and what the latest date the should be received by , also are these sent out in alphabetical order of last name, so if you are near the end of the alphabet you will get yours towards the end ? , many thanks
  • I'm not sure with regards to the alphabetical order thing, but my surname begins with an H and I received my renewal pack over a week ago.

  • surname "N" and still waiting for mine... typical when i`m owed over Ј1000 from last year.
  • Rang them couple of weeks ago and asked this question as I hadn't received mine yet, she told me that those on the most benefits get theirs first, so no time soon for me then!
Asked friend last week who is on IS if she had hers yet but she hadn't! Not sure how accurate her reply was. (lady from TC, not my friend, ha)
  • I received mine just over 2 weeks ago, surname B postcode T, think it maybe just pot luck when you receive it, I dont think its to do with if you receive lots of benefits you get it quicker, my husband works full-time.
We have still not had the new calculations yet though.
