  • i have started doing this in my area to try and make some spare cash for xmas and debts but so far only got 2 people i need more
has anyone got any ideas to get more? i have put leaflets up in the local shops and also in peoples letter boxes
  • We started a ironing service over 5 years ago its been nothing but hassle with people claiming that we have lost things and burnt them (which we obvioulsy have not) but we luckily took out insurance to cover these situations which isn't cheap. It did start as part time now we work from 5am till 9pm monday to friday and we also collect the ironing on a sunday. The phone never stops ringing even on a sunday morning at 8:30am!
Some people actually send their stuff not washed (gas mask time)
the only other thing i can think of you doing to get more work is advertise in a local newsletter.
But do be careful if you are stepping on other ironing services toes they won't appreciate it and might try to cause trouble.
    Good luck

  • Hi
I live in Kent (6 miles from central london)and there has been a demand recently for home "good quality" cleaners and ironers.
Average pay here for a good reliable domestic cleaner is between Ј7-Ј10 per hour. Ironers can charge easily Ј8ph+.
So even if you got 2 x 2hr jobs...thats an extra Ј28-Ј40pw or Ј1456-Ј2080pa. Or a couple of lots of ironing (2x2hrs)...thats an extra Ј32pw or Ј1664pa.
I have seen an advert in our local paper for a black bag of clothes ironed for Ј30.00:confused: ..I thought that wasnt too bad.
Anyway, just an idea as I have needed all of the above over the past 18 months and it has been a nightmare to fill the jobs to a good standard. Luckily I am sorted now, but there is a definite opening in the market if your willing to put out a few flyers and test the waters

  • I love this idea!! I acutally like cleaning and an a complete neat freak!! If anyone wants a regular cleaner in the Leicester area give me a shout!!
  • That'd be me then timberflake!
I really need a cleaner and an ironer as despite having a 2 bed apartment (flat!) I never spend enough time at home to get it done!
    Fancy it?
  • Hey - what I great idea, I need some extra cash, so if anybody needs an Ironer in the Kent area, give me a shout!!!!
  • same goes for anyone in the stafford area!!! I'm a bit of a perfectionist and cleaning freak, so it would be nice to do someone elses house instead of picking up after 3 kids! (that includes OH!) PM me if you're in the area, I need the extra cash too!
  • I'm up for ironing in the North Surrey area, I'm really near Kingston upon Thames & Esher (ohh...posh!) and around here people charge Ј10 for 5 shirts, so Ј30 for a black bag full in a 48 hour turn around is a bargian IMHO!
  • All we need now is someone to take up our offers!!!
  • Thats great news!! Isn't it funny how its come about though!!
  • My cousin, left her full time job, did a course at college regarding business studies, and has now set up her own business, domestic cleaning & other care duties. She's been doing this for nearly 4yrs and its going really well for her!
My friend also left her full time admin job, after a payout from her messy divorce, she purchased an industrial sized washing machine. And had all the electrics in her house changed to stand the power needed! And now does laundry from home, offering a delivery & collection service. She purchased a Berlingo size van to start of with, but business has taken off, that she now drives a Transit size.
With a little patience & common sence, these things we do on a normal daily basis, can actually earn us money! Such as childcare etc!!! I remember once, I used to iron for a friend whilst she baby sit my 2 children when I had to work and couldnt find cover for them!
Anyway, I despise housework, but at a push, I will gladly help my cousin out if she's desperate for staff. And same goes with my friend, ref ironing. I love ironing, so that doesn't bother me! if anyone needs the extra help in my area, PM me!
Thanks Penny Pincher for the idea. Glad to see your back with us!
  • For people who hire cleaners/ironers:
How do you check the history of the person you are hiring? I guess it would be a position of trust as the cleaner would have a set of keys to your house?
