A question about : Sat & Sun 22nd & 23rd December

Sat & Sun 22nd & 23rd December - What small DFW things will you be doing today?
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of big stuff that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important title=Top

RFTA - keep the list short and relax!
Well today is the official start of my holidays. Been off work for 2 days already but was mad trying to make presents. Now I am done done done.
Might not be on for a few days as I am availing myself of the hospitality of my parents and my in-laws so the plan is:
Make sure everything switched off in house
Make sure I pack all presents (no last min dash to shops)
Eat everyone else's food and drink their drink (free food and drink woo!)
Bring back as much cheese as possible from mum's
Check online banking (all to plan)
Think that's about it from me.
OH has just walked in saying
a: you're addicted to this site (it's not true, I can give up any time I want )
b: Is this secret, am I not allowed to look? (err, of course you can look but if you need to know that we are going to my mum's for Christmas you should have listened for the last year )
c: What is that Martin Lewis icon? (Me: it's for MSE things) OH: It's stupid, you aren't 12 year old girls. It's like a fan club.
  • Morning all. This is my second attempt at waking up this morning. At 2am we had the phone call every parent dreads "your son's in hospital after writing off his car, twice over the limit and lucky to be alive"
After dashing to the hospital I then did the last of the T*sco shopping and was home with the shopping by 5am. Then to police station to collect my normally very sensible 25 yr old son, dropped him back at his house and crawled back into bed at 8. I was cross with myself for giving in to sleep as we've both got soooooo much to do today.
    Small things today so far:
  • breakfast from stores - twice
  • checked banking and shuffled monies
  • checked for surveys
  • fed and watered the chickens
  • I will also:

  • take pork mince out of freezer to make sausage meat
  • make Jamie Oliver gravy and freeze for the big day
  • wrap all presents and label so I can check we've missed no-one
  • marzipan the two cakes
  • hang HC on airer - no tumble dryer here
  • bake some biscuits as a gift for the people who took in son and called ambulance at 1.30 this morning
  • lunch and dinner from stores
  • possibly NSD but not sure yet
  • I better get moving even though I feel like I've been hit by a train. Hate to think how son feels

  • Oh my Stitching Witch, hope your son is okay! What a terrible phone call to receive!
Hairdresser is coming tonight to cut me and DH's hair, Ј20.

Need to go to the pound shop and get some treats and toys for the dogs christmas. Will pick up some sugar, cling film and tin foil as well. Might get that from mr t, use my clubcard vouchers so I limit my cash spend
Checked the bank this am, not good. Got about Ј5 in there, still have a Ј45 dd to come off plus need money for the hairdresser
Need to tidy up and clean this house, it's filthy! Floors are boggin, guess that's what's happens when you have two dogs and wooden floors lol
Need to do a stock of all the food we have and do some sort of food plan til payday
Have a good day everyone x

  • Hi everyone,
    Thanks for starting us LPP.
RFTA - Glad your dog is coming home, you must be very excited!
Carrie - Your OH has made me chuckle I can totally give up whenever I want as well...but why would we?!
Stitchy - Omg, hope your son is ok! It's terrible how a few drinks can make a normally sensible person do some really silly things, just glad no one is seriously hurt.
    Today I have/will:-
  • Food from stores
  • Dinner from meal plan, last night went to pot since the stir fry had gone off I can't believe it didn't last a week...so we had some HM spag bol from the freezer, so tonight I will be making veg pad thai for the first time! Hope it goes ok.
  • Charged phone via pc

  • Hope everyone has a great, MSE day x

  • Stitching witch I hope your son is ok and you a feeling better now too. How awful
    Today I have
    A) posted on here after a rather long gap! Of about 5 yrs apart from the odd post here and there. We became debt free in 2007 and have been just about managing to stay afloat since then, but things have become a bit tight recently and we've had a few house things that have cost us and we have accrued some debt. Not masses but we will have to tackle it in the new year.
    B) walked with ds1 to sainsburys to get last minute bits and only got what was on the list, a miracle for me lately!
    C) sadly for DH, but not our bank balance, his friend has cancelled them going out for (quite) a few drinks, so he is inadvertently doigng a dfw thing!
    D) we'll be having something from the freezer for dinner rather than buying something from sainsburys or a takeaway.
    Thats about it I think!
  • Stitchy: Cripes!
Today we've pretty much finished decorating our new-er house just the stairs to finish and the tv to get connected.
Had another look in the loft. Found two lovely shelves that'll be perfect in the pantry. Repaired with items from toolbox. Ј0.
Went for a long walk in the rain to cheer our spirits.
    Homemade Chinese meal for dinner.
Repaired loft hatch which wouldn't close the two inches. Less draughty now. Ј0.
Was absolutely appalled to read our Housing Association's newsletter which suggested tenant's leave their loft hatches fully open all Winter "so warm air can escape upwards and stop the water tanks freezing". Our hatch is in the bathroom and it was so cold in there last night our breath was freezing after one day jammed just two inches open. Not to mention the fact that loft insulation fibres can cause serious irritation to the skin, throat and the eyes and the hatch door dangles down into the middle of the bathroom rendering the batch and sink inaccessible. I have just emailed them a stinking email.

Fitted new blind. Again, less draughty.
OH took damaged blind back to Wilkinson and got a replacement plus Ј10 cash compensation.
