A question about : refund from lending stream?

Hi guys. Im just looking for some advice about lending stream. Basically I have got myself into a bit of a mess with payday loans and credit cards. It all started when i came home last year from travelling and i was finding it hard to make ends meet. Anyway, i am now in a dmp with stepchange which is in its very early stages. I have made my first payment to them but it has not yet been paid on to my creditors. I have sent letters to the payday loan companies (wonga and lending stream) cancelling continuous debit authority. However last friday (18 jan) lending stream debited Ј236 from my account. When i discovered this on monday i phoned them immediately and explained the situation. They told me that they had not received any communication from either myself or stepchange but if i could provide paperwork confirming i had been in an arrangement with stepchange from before my payment due date that i would be refunded the money. I contacted stepchange who confirmed that they had sent paperwork on 4 january and said i should demand a refund from them so i contacted lending stream again who confirmed that it would be refunded within 24 hours. That was on monday, it is now thursday and i still do not have the refund. I phoned again yesterday and they said they had sent it on to their accounts dept but it had not been processed yet and i should have it by the end of the day. When i phoned again this morning i was told the same thing, accounts had not processed the request. The person i was speaking to said they would send another urgent request to have it processed immediately and i would have it by the end of today. Im beginning to wonder now if they are just saying all this to get me off the phone and have no intentions of refunding it. Im panicking now because they have left me with Ј7 in my account and no other money to live on until my next payday. I was just wondering if anyone else had been in a similar situation and what was the outcome?

  • Stepchange ??!!!... was wondering if you are in DMP should the DM company call up Lending Stream and sort things out? Or ask the DMP company to send a email to Lending Stream and CCing you...
  • Well when i spoke to stepchange they said they dont have authority to speak to them on the phone. They advised that i contact my bank and reclaim the money through them, however i actually work for my bank and would rather not draw their attention to my financial situation...
  • Use paragraphs.
  • I think Stepchange should contact them, they have all rights to contact the lender for their client or ex-clients unresolved issue. You can also send an email to lending stream explaining your situation, their manager will look after that i guess!
  • Well after I got off the phone to Lending Stream this morning I did send them an email explaining the situation again and asked that they reply confirming that they are going to refund me and when. At least that way I will have it in writing...if they reply that is. Im going to call Stepchange again now...
  • oh. so you sent an email right that should help! But, you can forward the email or letter again that u sent earlier cancelling the continuous authority? That way we have bring this again to their attention.
  • Yes im going to send the letter again tomorrow but i will send it by recorded delivery this time so i can trace it.
