A question about : Refund king here to help!

Brand new on the forum although been using the site a while. Seeing as I just posted to ask advice, I thought I could maybe share some of mine.

I am really really good at getting refunds and compensation. I sometimes think I should train as a lawyer and get into it professionally! It's a shame that so many services are so poor that I should have to but that's another matter.

Over the last year, I have claimed back way over Ј1000 from companies who have razzed me off with their shoddy services and advice. Here are a few I can think, of:

Ј300 from halifax very recently, as they somehow managed to change my address during a credit card application, which meant the card (and other post) went to the wrong address. They were terrified of further action after jeopardising my security so that was quite easy.

Ј70 from Natwest mortgages the other day, as I was told that the mortgage on my first house would start being paid in April, but later found out it starts in March. Based on this first advice, i made commitments that a March start would have made difficult.

Second valuation fee of Ј328 waived on second property I wantto buy. Due to some very rude advisors and further wrong advice, they waived the fee as a gesture of goodwill.

I charged my energy company two administration charged of Ј15 eacha few months back because they tried to take a direct debit after I paid early with a credit card. I called specifically to ask if this would happen before I paid by cc and was misadvised, resulting in bounced direct debit charges from my bank, which they also paid. I liked that one as normally its customers who get charged admin fees and I was almost having a laugh when I wrote the letter but it worked!

Plenty more of that sort of thing but the point is that the moment a company costs you time or money when it offers poor advice and you take that advice, you should be demanding refunds but also further compensation.

I am happy to dish out advice to anyone with specific scenarios!

  • May I add that some of my skills are because I have worked on the phones for years so know exactly what it's like from the other side. I am very polite but I also know which buttons to press!
