A question about : Dismissal vs. Redundancy?

Hi,

I'm in a tricky situation. I took a sales job around a year ago, and the company has been struggling. This, combined with a slow start for me led to a performance review back in November, at which I was given a modified target to reach by the beginning of Feb.

The company has already made some people redundant, mainly consultants who are experts in our field.

A question about : How much in benefits?

Hi. If you were to be made redundant, how much do you receive in benefits? My wife earns Ј22k, so assume they would take that into account. How much is job seekers allowance or any other benefit I would be entitled to. Having never claimed a benefit before, not sure! Thanks

I was made redundant at the end of July from a small Limited company- the boss let all five staff go saying he was going into Administration.

Long story short, he didn't go into administration and is still trading, now from his own rented flat rather than the old office.

Because of this, I had to take him to an employment tribunal because the Insolvency service won't pay out as he was still trading.

My other half got told last year at the end of November that there are going to be redundancies at his place of work, and judging by what they said, he is one of the ones to be made redundant. Apparently the first lot leave in February.

He had his first interview, where they outlined the system they are using for each employee, but has not had his 1 to 1 about him personally.

My son was recently made redundant 10 days short of 9 years service. If the Statutory minimum notice was added he would be entitled to compensation based on 9 years service. However, the employment contract has a Pay In Lieu of Notice clause and the employees were sent home when made redundant.

Having just read the interview technique tips thread I just thought I would share an HR strategy that I read about a few years ago for screening CVs.

Apparently, this guy used to randomly throw half the CVs he received straight into the bin. This weeded out the naturally unlucky candidates.

Just thought I'd share this.
