A question about : Sky Cancellation

I'm struggling to find information on this, I was hoping someone here might know.

I am looking at switching Sky to Virgin. Long story short, up to 40mb has turned in to 15mb due to line degradation. I can only get up to 40mb on the BT infrastructure so moving ISP's that use BT's networks is pointless. I'm also finding Sky a bit pricey for what we are getting.

If anyone could help here that would be great.

My girlfriend used to pay the virgin (tv, phone and broadband) at her mothers house as part of her lodge. Back in October she moved up to Aberdeen with myself to an apartment where no virgin is available.

When she went to cancell she was told that if she recommended her mother (notice recommended) she would not have to pay the cancellation fee. Any it turns out her mum could get a better deal with sky so went for that over the virgin.

A question about : How to tell if a 'phone has switched from BT to a different supplier?

I have two pensioner friends who are fed up with BT's price rises and fiddles with BT Privacy/Caller Display, 1571 and free evening & weekend calls ... all tying them into regular 12 month contracts multiple times each year.

Both use BT for landline and both use PlusNet with a legacy tariff for broadband as they live in a small village.
