A question about : Long term care

Dad is 80 at the moment.
He lives alone. Health is OK considering his age. Can walk a few 100 yds etc but is partially sighed.

Part-owns his flat (his 40% probably worth Ј70-Ј80k). He gets disability allowance which he never spends.

That's the problem he never spends any money and it just keeps mounting up. In terms of savings, hes probably got Ј30K.

A question about : Total pension novice.....

Hello everyone, Im a total novice where pensions are concerned... and Im asking for advice on my husbands behalf!
So his work use independent financial advisors and we have a letter stating that he has two standard life pensions on the go...The letter from the financial advisor states that the new scheme has lower charges of 0.75% annual management rather than 1.3%.
The letter goes on to ask if he would like to
A) leave it as it is
B) transfer the one pension into the new pension

A question about : Pension Sharing Transfer Costs

Following divorce am sorting a pension share.

Saw my IFA yesterday. It's already cost an arm and a leg to take funds out and now I see on the very last page of the quote that my IFA will receive almost Ј3k immediately (out of my fund) as commission from the company (Standard Life), who is to open a new pension for me! I must be in the wrong job! How can this amount of commission be justified? ???

A question about : Tax on pension

My husband has a defined contribution pension fund of Ј78,000 and has asked me to ask this question.

If he decides to take the whole pension in one lump how much tax would he pay? He gets Ј9,360 a year SP and has no other income.

He is not necessarily planning to do this but wanted to know how it was taxed. I know that 25% of the pension is tax free and the first 10,600 of the SP and residue of the pension added together is also free of tax, that leaves Ј57.260 is that total taxed at 40%?

Long story, I will try to summarise the best I can...

I worked for the council from 1992 to 2010 when I entered into a an agreement with my former employer which resulted in the termination of my employment, can't really say much else about that.

Due to my ill-health I haven't worked since, and of recent my health has declined.

A question about : Pension Protection Fund

Hi

2 questions.

1. I am in full time employment and also being paid a small pension of circa Ј600pm (by PPF) this is all being taxed @ 20%, could I transfer this to my wife's name and use her tax code as she is not working?

2. Or with the new rules coming in April would I be able to take any money out of this and re-invest.
