Over 50s Money Saving

A question about : Had a problem with a funeral plan?

Has anyone had a problem with a funeral plan ie being asked for more money, pressure from company on remaining relatives etc? I am considering Age UK and the Co-op but have found downsides to both. But maybe all companies have a downside?

A question about : Winter Fuel Payment 2014/2015

I will be eligible to claim the Winter Fuel Payment for the coming Winter but am not yet receiving a state pension or benefits. Looking at the form it says Please fill in your name, address or date of birth and If you fill in your date of birth on the claim form, we need to see your original birth certificate. Elsewhere it says You will need to send your original birth certificate with this form. (My emphases)

My Dad is thinking of buying a mobility scooter and has asked me to see which might be the best one for him. There are so many about that I don't know where to start. He is wondering about a three wheeler but I can remember the Reliant Robin and that it used to tip over. Age concern seem to just promote the Quingo. Can anyone give me a recommendation from their personal use please? Thanks in advance. Jackie

I know that we can't get a bus pass now until state pension age and wondered if the chiropody had gone the same way.

A question about : does dad really need a will ?

My dad lives with me so has no house. My mum died 9 years ago.
I am an only child. Dads income is his state pension plus attendance allowance. He has no other pension. His assets are savings only approx. Ј50k. His intention is to pass his money onto me. Does he really need a will ? His circumstances couldn't be simpler.

Discussion in the pub the other day. Can you go to Uni at 63 with a Goverment Grant of Ј9k ? pa. You will never have to pay it back as you do not earn more than Ј15k pa
Would be nice to do a degree. Would funds be available at this age ? Up to what amount and for what purpose (eg living expenses as well !). Would any of this be means tested ?
