Homebase Plus card for over 60s

A question about : Homebase Plus card for over 60s

In the Cambridge Homebase store a couple of days ago, we were offered the Homebase Plus card for over 60s. It gives you 10% off plus double Nectar points on Tuesdays.

This is the first we've heard of it, can't find anything on their website and we've never seen it in our local store (Selly Oak, Birmingham) but were told it should be valid there. We'll find out soon ...

NHS Continuing Healthcare funding cap?

A question about : NHS Continuing Healthcare funding cap?

A friend's husband has been admitted to a care home under a guardianship order. He has advanced alzheimer's requiring 24 hour care and has multiple care need due to his condition. Our friend has been informed that most of his care home fees will be funded but Ј400 a month will come from his pension. Apparently this figure has been agreed between the council and NHS at a meeting our friend did not attend. This contribution will mean our friend will have to claim pension credit.

Financial assessment for care home

A question about : Financial assessment for care home

Hi there,

Having read some of the other threads on this topic I have been struck by the amount of selfless, patient help available around here, so I'm hopeful. But if this is beyond anyone here I will understand...

If YOU have a Bus Pass

A question about : If YOU have a Bus Pass

If you have a bus pass for whatever reason, you might like to read this. Last week, I decided to travel to Dorchester on Market Day. This is a popular service from Weymouth a there is a queue all day normally. I was second in the queue at 9am, in readiness for the 9.30 curfew. The person who was first, told me that the previous week, an inspector announced fare paying passengers on board first, and they wondered if this would be repeated.

Summer wedding

A question about : Summer wedding

I would like some ideas on what to wear for a summer wedding celebration, please.
First, a private ceremony for bride, groom and witnesses only, I am one of the witnesses.
Then a few days later, an afternoon/ evening party for family and friends, outside if the weather allows.
Being MSE minded I am reluctant to spend a fortune on two outfits I will never wear again. I still have two hanging in the wardrobe from previous family weddings.
Typical wedding guest attire does not seem suitable somehow.

Asset deprivation ??

A question about : Asset deprivation ??

Dad had a massive stroke and was in hospital over Christmas. We expected him to come home to be cared for. He asked mum to move a few thousand out of his ISA into their joint account to pay for possible alterations to the house. He found out 2 weeks later that he would be going into a nursing home permanently. Will the financial asset team treat this money as soley belonging to him even if it was moved into the joint account before we knew he would have to go into care?

Downsizing

A question about : Downsizing

Everyone says you should do it while you can rather than wait until you are too old/ill/frail and in principal I agree with this.

We have a mid-terrace Victorian house so not a huge amount to downsize from. But we decided to look anyway.

We wanted a bungalow on a bus route and near shops in a decent area. So we had a look round and came up with this:
