A question about : Need some practical ideas to rid us of debt

Hi,

I'll give you a run down on our current debts, I am desperate for us to get rid of it.

Credit card debts totaling approx 6K with different lenders
Natwest loan approx 13k
Black Horse car finance approx 3.5k (this should be gone soon as the car is up for sale)
Next account 700
Secured mortgage approx 120k
unsecured amount tied in with mortgage 27k
Catalogues approx 500

I think that is it. What are the practical ways that I can really start to reduce it.

My husband works full time, earns 32k I work part time earning less than 10k. We have two children and another on the way.

Best answers:

  • Are you keeping up with all the repayments? If you can post a SOA (search for it) we can see where all your money is going each month then any left over can be used to pay of highest interest first. It's also handy as you can try and reduce your other bills each month ie groceries, phones, tv etc.
  • We are keeping up with all the repayments we just struggle once everything is paid because we are left with approx 700 for food, clothing, travel expenses etc.
  • Hi
I'm new here, but to be honest with you, if you manage the repayments every month I'd say you're winning.
Some other ways t make extra cash for you disposable income would be to do things like car boot sales and sell on Ebay and Amazon. If you have a car Google car share for your area. The network links you to people in you area who want to car share. If you can find someone who shares a commute with you but cannot drive then you could pair up and charge them half the petrol money which would be cheaper for you, and for them
    Just a thought.
