A question about : Mortgage ppi

Hi, I took out a mortgage in 2000 with the Woolwich, and it was all sorted out mortgage adviser at the estate agents. I also was advised to take out a payment protection plan for Ј40.64 a month with legal & general. I have never seen any separate payment for this on a statement, is it possible that the payment is within the mortgage payment. And if so is it possible that I have a claim for ppi or not, thanks ,,Paul.

Best answers:

  • You need to establish whether or not you took out the payment protection plan before any consideration of whether you "have a claim for PPI" (assuming you mean complaint).
If you do have it why do you think it was miss-sold to you?
  • Yes I do hope to complain and for the same reason as everyone else, to try and get some cash back. I was self employed at the time and I was told that this was a reason to complain.
  • The title on the paper says Mortgage payment protection plan, is this the same as ppi.
  • In simple terms a policy would be missold if :-
It wouldn't have paid out i.e. you could not have made a successful claim
You had no need of the cover i.e. you already had the same cover elsewhere or you would have had no difficulty in maintaining your mortgage payments and keeping your lifestyle for a very long period of time if you were off work through sickness, accident or unemployment.
If the above don't apply then perhaps there is just a possibility it wasn't actually missold
  • Depends on how you managed to keep up the payments and whether you would been able to do so in 2001.
    I
  • I kept up payments from my savings and my saving accounts from 2001 would easily of shown that as well.
  • I have 2 pieces of paper in front of me, one is a proposal for the policy and the other one is signed by me and I assume it's the policy. This all happened 15 years ago and i cant be sure until I make some phone calls, I came here first just to find out how it all works.
  • You may well be correct as I said it was a long time ago and the insurer was legal & general.
