A question about : Martin's Money Poser: Crack the code

MARTIN’S CHAMPAGNE MONEY POSER: Crack the code. !It has been a while since I did a Money Poser, as you got too good at them. !So here’s a really tough one. !Can you crack the code? 1110291059510. !If someone manages to, before I post clues (three days after the tip goes out) then I’ll send a bottle of Champagne.

Best answers:

  • I haven't got a clue at this early stage in the game!!
  • Got it, Thats my queue position in Giro banks call answering service, A bottle of Dom would be nice thanks
  • Could this be the amount of UK consumer debt, just over the 1 trillion pound mark, as reported by the Bank of England?
Its unlikely to be the odds against Sven staying as England manager - those would be much less!

  • Definately has to be.
1 trillion is 1 followed by 12 zeros.
    fits in with this.
  • I've cracked the code............Martin has won second prize in a beauty contest! ;D
  • .........let me explain, the numbers refer to throws of the dice in his Monopoly game (bought by a group of MSE members/regulars as a birthday gift)........and he ends up on Community Chest with the final throw.
He turns the card over and there's the result.
I'm not too fussed about champagne, could it be a bottle of Smirnoff instead please?
  • not sure about debt- sounds about right number of digits but I believe debt was reported at
    1.00429 trillion UK pounds
  • Hits to this site?
  • No one is close ;D
The answer works completely - if you got it - you'd be sure you were right.
  • Thanks for letting us know we don't have to analyse the options for either a 2,3,4,5 or 6 player game of monopoly to test the theory.
I was almost convinced "Consumer Debt" had it in the bag......
...... Let the games continue!! ;D
  • Is it the barcode on the bottle of the lovely (expensive!!) champagne you are giving to the winner???
  • Barcodes consist of 13 digits, I know because I have checked the one on the back of "The Money Diet" 97800918948849 & it's not that one!!
  • Shame about not being the consumer debt - I was sure I recognised the number from the wife's credit card statement!
As another stab - if you reverse the digits (to get 0159501920111) and add that to the original number you end up with 1269792979621, which is a numerical palendrome, reading the same both ways. Very interesting but there must be plenty of other numbers that do the same.

  • If your wrong Peter you deserve a drink just for the effort you've put in!!
  • I don't think it's a barcode or an ISBN number either. It doesn't add up properly. ???
  • Unfortunately, the reverse number business works for plenty of other numbers as well.
There must be something unique about the number Martin has set us.
An interesting thing to note is that the number does not contain the digits 3,4,6,7,or 8. I don't know if that helps us though.

  • Am I the only one that was trying to convert it to letters.
The only thing that makes sense with the first three letters the same is www.
I thought I was on to something for a minute but haven't been able to follow through.
  • OK because I'm nice i have to tell you this is absolutely horrible. It's extremely difficult and I'm pretty confident the champagne is safe! After i give you the clue you may just get it. However i doubt anyone will get this alone- it's hunt as a pack time!
