A question about : MAC book/Laptop on Hire Purchase

My brother is moving to the UK from Ireland next week and starting a new job in IT.

He is in need of a MAC book and a good mobile phone however he is looking for a contract or hirepurchase type of deal as he is only starting a job so has no income for a month or so and he designs websites part time and needs a MAC book to continue this.

He had a MAC book via his old employers before;

As he is only going to be getting an NI number when he arrives and a bank account it might prove difficult.

Anyone know of a any deals or can point in right direction??

Thanks a mill in advance,

Best answers:

  • Why doesn't he get the laptop in Ireland?
Strange that a guy that works in IT needs his sister to sort this out for him!
  • I live in the UK and he hasn't even had his national insurance meeting as he moves next week. generally when someone is relocating they need assistance with these bits and pieces. Id say helpful comments would be more welcome thanks all the same
  • Apple do finance deals, however without a NI and bank account getting any finance will be hard unless as is suggested he buys it in Ireland using his existing details before he moves.
  • He's not going to have much in the way of a UK credit history, so will find it hard being accepted for any kind of finance over here.
It's either a case of sort something out before he moves, or wait.
  • I have both and to be honest these days windows are just as good for websites
  • If he doesn't have enough money to pay for one in cash right now (and as others have said, there is zero chance of him getting accepted for credit on one), he should just get a cheap Ј2-300 windows laptop to tide him over for a month or so until he's settled at work.
You don't "need" a Mac for web design, heck I've been a software engineer for 10 years and I don't need my Mac. I just prefer it to Windows, but all the software I require is also available on Windows (and arguably, there's more software available on Windows). I'm not trying to turn this into a Mac Vs. PC thread, but for the time being, given that he can't afford one, he doesn't need one.
  • What about one from this site: https://www.getonlineathome.org
To be fair I don't know if the pc's/laptops are any good.
  • that site is a joke , desktop second hand 1g memory , 80g hard drive
be surprised if that ran the supplied windows 7 .
  • The fact they accept Switch and Solo speaks volumes, haha.
