A question about : Littlewoods Credit!

Hi all, forum newbie here so be gentle. I apologise if this is in the wrong section.

Here's my story though. I opened an account with Littlewoods a couple of days ago.I was told I had a credit limit of Ј750. So I decided to order new shoes at Ј48. They arrived yesterday no problems. The main reason for me opening my account was because I need a new laptop for work and at present I simply cannot afford a new one upfront. I then proceeded to order a laptop from the Littlewoods website at a total cost of Ј520. Of course this keeping me within my credit limit. I chose the standard 52 weeks option of paying. At the checkout it said my order was accepted. I never recieved a confirmation e-mail though so I went online to check the status of my order to see 'Order Being Processed'. I thought fine maybe it's just taking a bit longer. I then recieved a phonecall from Littlewoods saying I needed to pay a deposit of Ј50 before they can put the order through. I agreed to pay the deposit but said I would do it tomorrow as I was busy (which I was). The woman on the phone said that was fine and I was just to phone them tomorrow. Now I went to check my order approximately 20 minutes ago and the status now reads 'credit rejected'. I don't understand why it has changed to that. I agreed to pay the deposit so I have no clue why it now reads that. For a start I don't want to order again, pay the deposit then to see 'credit rejected' again. I'm finding Littlewoods service very poor and the advisor wasn't much help etiher. I've tried phoning them but their lines are now 'busy'. Any help would be much appreciated. I could go elsewhere but if I'm getting rejected from Littlewoods then what chances do I have elsewhere?

  • I can imagine once you have paid the Ј50.00 as required everything will be okay....
  • I am with Littlewoods too and i got turned down for a big purchase a few years ago when I first joined. I think its because you don't have enough spending history with them for them to see if you are a good payer or not. Once I had been with them a few months and made some payments they increased my limit and now if I don't spend with them for a while they put it up. My limit now has just gone up to Ј4700!!! And I never asked for this! I think once you have bought a few things and paid on time etc you won't have a problem. They are probably just playing it safe as you don't have much history with them.

  • Give them a ring tomorrow (between 9-5 when the credit referalls team are there, place the order on the phone, get transferred to them and pay the deposit)
    Your order will go through straight away then!
  • Its because your account maybe fraud, so a deposit is requested as a name and address check can also be done. pay the Ј50 and they will replace the order
  • or cancel the order, go to Currys/PC world & buy a higher spec laptop for much cheaper than from a catalogue and use their finance. No credit check just bank and card details needed, i think it is 19.9%, probably cheaper all round.
  • The Ј50 is standard for higher price electrical goods.
    Don't worry. Once you paid order will be accepted and dispatched from manufacturer.
    Had the same happen to me for a new TV even though my account was old and always paid up. It's just standard on the higher price electrical goods since they had people get accounts and order goods to resell and never pay back..

    When you spoke to one of our underwriters to agree to pay the deposit the following day, the advisor would have cancelled the order. This is because when you pay your deposit, we will replace the order for you. If you still require this order, please contact us on 0844 822 8000 to discuss further.

  • I've got to say, the fact that Lisa has bothered to reply (in a polite and professional way, and with a gramatically sound post), this would instill confidence in me to order from Littlewoods.
    And I'm saying that after reading the initial posts and thinking "poor show".
    And no, I don't work for them!

  • So here's a small update.
    I ordered over the phone and paid a deposit and the advisor's name was Alison. I'm telling you this because she has been a revelation. Great service from her. I spoke to a few others a couple of times and they were all being miserable and one was even talking to her colleague at one point and just ignoring me. Laughing and joking away and I heard her say 'I just wish people would !!!!!! off'. I was very !!!!ed off at the time and that sort of service is disgraceful, I'd like to think she is no longer with the company.
    Anyway was told it'd be delievered by the 10th. Only been 2 days and it's been loaded onto the van already so fingers crossed for today.

    The Littlewoods website is fantastic allowing you to do many things including tracking your order. Once it confirms that the goods have been loaded onto the van, it means that they are DEFINATELY COMING TODAY and stay at home to receive your laptop.
