A question about : Knitted and crochet items

Is there a Charity which can make use of items made using left over balls of yarn? They can be specific items the charity needs.

Best answers:

  • A group of friends help me make knee blankets for the local nursing homes. Some of them knit the squares and then hand them to someone else who crochet an edging on them. When we have enough we take them to the homes.
  • There's quite a few can make use of woolly hats and scarves as well, but it would be best to try to find a local one because the postage wouldn't be cheap.
  • Link to Hope would probably like hats, mitts etc- you could e-mail them here:

They take shoe boxes to Eastern Europe- but they also take "loose" goodies with them such as knitted toys which don't have the CE label. They distribute the extras to needy folk. Pick up points across UK in early November.
  • Animal charities can always use knitted or crocheted blankets, both for their animals and to sell on fundraising stalls.
  • There's a knit a square to do your share thread on here, who support various charities (it isn't just squares!); they have loads of links on the thread but I cannot find it for the life of me!
  • Current page here and more details can be found way back on page 95.

We support lots of different charities but because of silly postage prices we try to find local places for things.
Many of us are also members of Loving Hands, a group of crafters who also support many charities.
There's also the Big Knit, knitting little hats for Innocent smoothie bottles which help Age UK and these can be handed in to local branches usually. This is a great way of using up little balls of wool left over from bigger projects.
