A question about : Jet2 claims and travel insurance

Hello,

I have just received a form off Jet2 (after 3 weeks) to claim accomodation and food expenses due to the ash cloud.

On the form it is asking for details of my travel insurance.

What is the relationship between Jet2 compensation and travel insurance compensation?

Will Jet2 deduct any travel insurance I might recieve (which won't be much)?

The truth is I will still be out of pocket if Jet2 reimburse all I am claiming and I get the travel insurance for a delayed/cancelled flight.

Do I have to tell them about my travel insurance which has nothing to do with them?

Best answers:

  • Oh, and they are asking for the original receipts which is a bit dodgy, I don't like to hand those over, they already have copies of them all.
  • Are you saying lie and say "none", or write "refuse to declare" on the form, or leave it blank. If some companies are paying such as Fortis, and some are not, are you saying it is legal to claim off both if yours is one of the ones paying?
  • This is what I don't understand.
My travel insurance is for the inconvenience of a delayed/cancelled flight, it's not for accomodation/food (not explicitly anyway).
The travel insurance is per hours of dely up to a maximum of Ј300 - nothing to do with acommodation or food.
That to me is nothing to do with the claim I make on Jet2 for accomodation and food. If in fact Jet2 deduct the amount I get paid from the travel insurance then the travel insurance was pointless.
Can I refuse to tell Jet2 about my travel insurance details?
I'm still out of pocket if I get both.
  • I'm in the same situation with Jet2. I've submitted a claim to my insurers as well as Jet2 and agree that whatever I get from my insurance company is no concern of Jet2.
At the moment, my insurers are saying they "may consider" payment of travel delay compensation, but that I need a letter from Jet2 to confirm my flights dates and times, length of delay etc. As I didn't want to jepordise any potential payments from Jet2, I wrote to them to ask for the letter, but said it was for the respective HR deparments of where the people in our party worked, so we could officialy claim back extra annual leave we were asked to take (not a complete lie, perhaps a little exageration of the truth).
I have had no letter yet from Jet2, but they have now also sent me their claim form which has the question about my travel insurers on. I have answered it with the name and said that they are not paying claims, again, not a complete lie at the moment anyway.
To be honest, I think Jet2 are more likely to fishing for marketing information as they are also asking the question about when it is due for renewal. Looking at the way Jet2 have handled this so far anyway, I think they are also just hoping people will not claim from them as they can do from their insurance.
Initially they said on their website that they wouldn't accept claims for out of pocket expenses, but have now relented but not publicised the fact.
Next, on this claim form it states that by signing it, you are agreeing not to claim this from anyone else, but as this is just after the question about insurance, the implication is if you are putting a claim into both, that is somehow wrong. As has been said above, any claims are for different elements.
Lastly it says expenses will be repaid as vouchers which obviously not only ties you to using Jet2, but also in real money costs them less (a Ј300 flight to you doesn't cost them that much).
They are just trying to minimize their exposure by hoping people don't bother to check places like MSE
  • How do I get a claim form from Jet2? We were stuck in Malaga for 3 days and I need to claim accommodation etc.
  • Have now got my claim form from Jet 2 - it came with a covering letter specifically relating to the volcano. On the front of the form is states:-
"jet2.com is willing to reimburse its passengers for reasonable expenses incurred as comtemplated by EU Regulation 261/04".
Also - there was a clause at the end which said:-
"Successful claims may be reimbursed to the lead passenger in the form of a credit voucher valid for 12 months from the date of issue ......"
Do they have a right to do this or can I insist that I am reimbursed in cash / chq????
  • Thanks Cityboy. I have already put a note on my claim form stating that I do not wish to be paid in vouchers so I will wait and see what happens before involving the AUC
  • I have just received compensation from JET 2 for my extended 1 week stay in Egypt due to the Ash Cloud. They paid most of it but made payment by way of Jet 2 vouchers to be exchanged for another holiday/flight with them. Is this right? I don't want vouchers and think they should refund in cash. Any thoughts out there.
  • I recieved my vouchers yesterday from Jet2 however i'm not sure how they have calculated them.
We were delayed 4 days however had to book 5 extra days therefore i claimed for the 5 days which they have paid.
the strange part is that overall claim was for Ј874 however they have sent me vouchers for Ј925?
    Any ideas?
  • Regarding payment in vouchers, from my memory of the form, it said on the bottom where you sign it that by doing so you were accepting various things including payment in vouchers. I specifically crossed that part out, put I DO NOT AGREE and put a paragraph in my covering letter saying that I wanted payment in cash, cheque, bank transfer, refund to credit card etc.
As Cityboy has posted, in 261/04 there is no specific mention of how expenses incurred under article 9 should be paid (presumably because the airline should be taking care of this for us), but the inference would have to be it should be in line with articles 7 and 8. If you signed the form I suppose Jet2 could argue you have therefore agreed to receiving vouchers.
Send them back and see what they say.
On another note, I finally received my letter from Jet2 with the delayed flight details on to send to my insurance company.
  • I've decided to keep the vouchers and use them to go to New York before Xmas. The reasons are that they have paid me more than i was due and i suspect they might review the claim if i send the vouchers back ie they have paid me for 5 nights accom instead of the 4 nights i was delayed.
Add this to the Ј400 i also recieved from Columbus direct insurance im actually around Ј600 better off.
    Bit of a result.
  • Just to keep My promise to" jet 2" after emailing them for a refund ,I said I would try and give them as much "negative advertising" for them as I can, march 2010 I handed over My cash ,and every time I email e'm the same old standard printed "give it 7 days " it says.Give us back the days where "The customer comes first".Its the same at p&o lines,My fault, got the 24 Hr clock mixed ( dont tell em your name pike),when I got to the Docks the man said "Oooo" thisL cost ya, Hey he was" bang on" Ј60 each way,
  • My travel insurancer - The Post Office - paid up a few weeks ago. Well nearly.
They gave us Ј280 each instead of the maximum Ј300 we were entitled to. How they decided it was only Ј280 is a mystery, still I'm not going to argue with that (and that's probably what they rely on).
Jet2 - 10 weeks later have so far coughed up nothing after we sent the claim form back some 6 weeks ago.
I crossed out the bit where it said they would pay in vouchers and I said I would like cash please.
    We shall see what happens.
  • We got a cheque from our insurance company yesterday - Ј260 instead of the Ј360 I was expecting.
Unfortunately it seems that our policy (purchased through Moneysupermarket) is slightly different than the one the company had on their website as a PDF. Basically the amounts paid out are slightly less so rather than the Ј30 per day, per person for the delay, we only got Ј20. At the end of the day, it's still a nice bonus to get something and it will go towards our next holiday so all is good.
Shame Jet2 can't be as efficient paying out - their website yesterday (there's a "hidden" page they sent out the address of on the acknowledgement of claims cards) said it was taking 35 days to process a claim.
As I also said no to the vouchers, no doubt our form is at the bottom of the pile!
Incidentally, they still haven't refunded one of my attempts at getting home. I booked two more lots of return flights through the website as per their own instructions if you couldn't get through to the call centre to change your booking. One got refunded OK but for some reason they took the money in Swiss Francs originally and refunded it the same way. As the exchange rate had dropped, I ended up being nearly Ј80 out of pocket. My credit card company refunded the difference and froze the other transaction so I'm not paying interest on it. I've written to Jet2 twice in April and May to get a refund (I'm not paying 50p a minute to talk to some guy in India!) and the credit card company rang me last week to say if they didn't refund within 14 days, they would take action themselves. They guy who rang hinted that they were having a lot of problems with Jet2 and other customers in the same situation.
I sent Jet2 a letter on Monday telling them this but I kind of hope they don't do it so there's a chance I can keep the reward points I earned from buying them - I've got enough for a free return flight!
  • I went down to jet 2 at manchester Airport yesterday, and at first they said I had been paid Ј81 back of the Ј154,I said No you havent, they took some details and said your'e right!, but we will only pay back the outward bound fare, because they say I did not cancel my return flight ,but in an emai lwhen the flights were canceled ,I told the that.Today check if any refund is in My account guess what NO."But while I was at the check in deck a man was being ask for" I think Ј18" for not having his copy off his check in on line documents a regular little money " someone told me,....Better start wearing your pants back to front...! otherwise they'l av'e ya.
  • Just found the details of the "hidden" page on the Jet2 website with the progress information for the claims on. Not exactly loads of info, but at least it gives an indication of what's going on.
