A question about : It's a big-ish kitchen but no wall space so no units!

Hi all

After several quotes coming out at more than Ј12k for essentially just carcasses&doors (no worktops, no sink, no appliances, no fitting and no vat) I'm starting to think that I am after something rather unusual or excessive. Wickes recently surprised me (compared to the others, not compared to what I was expecting to pay for a kitchen!) with a price of Ј13k all in (with appliances), fitted

Here is the list of units:

2x full height larders
2x full height appliance housing
3x 900 pan drawers
6x 600 high line drawer units
1x 500 high line drawer unit
2x 150 wine rack
3x 600 wall units
1x 500 wall units
Worktops to cover 4m bench and 4.5sqm island - it's a 30mm solid surface something like Corian as far as I can tell but I've no idea what Apollo slabtech is made of. It glues together for seamless joins if that's any help

Appliances:
induction hob, dishwasher, extractor, single oven, warming drawer, microwave, sink+tap

The kitchen style is high gloss handleless white or grey..

What irks me a little is that even if the appliances, worktops and fitting total 6K, it's still 7K for the units, and I'm rather dumbfounded as to how a single unit that is essentially 3 pieces of routered chipboard and some painted MDF comes to Ј350 - my king size bed was less, with a pocket sprung memory foam matterss. It's got blum hinges, I suppose title=Wink

I'm off to Ikea for a nosey round at their stuff, and I'll be nipping into Benchmarx when I can to see a) if they really do supply Wickes kitchens and b) whether I can open a trade account (I do have a business, it just doesn't normally fit kitchens)
A couple of people have suggested I try Wren and Magnet and see if I can get them to get into an undercutting game with Wickes (who do have a price promise within 10 miles) and I'm still waiting for a couple of the other little shops to come back to me

Best answers:

  • You need to do some serious research, and I mean SERIOUS research before you go down the Wren route. Have a look here
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...highlight=wren
If you identify where you are based, somebody maybe able to revommend a company.
  • Benchmarx and Wickes Kitchens are about 90% the same. Benchmarx supply most (but not all) units pre-assembled, Wickes all come flat pack but the carcasses are the same spec from the same factory.
Not all units and door styles are available via both, though.
Let us know how you find the timeshare salesmen, sorry I mean Wren. Look but don't buy would be my advice.
Ikea should be cheaper but the spec is not as good. Good against those at a similar price point though. Can be a pain to fit if your walls are not straight.
Homebase Schrieber could be another fair comparison.
