A question about : Howard Cohen & Co

Has anyone got any advice on how to deal with Howard Cohen & Co?

I have heard they are troublesome and i am waiting for my CCA request.

Best answers:

  • Do you dispute the debt they say that you owe? I'm guessing that's why you've written to them asking for a CCA request.
If so, they will be in breach of the OFT's guidelines if they continue collection on a disputed debt.
  • Well yes and heard they will try anything whether its legal or not.
  • Just as an extra point on this - they tried to collect on an 11 year old debt which I had in fact paid in full. Goodness knows from where they get their data.
  • Only problem i am making payment to them via my debt management company so what do i do then?
  • I sent them a prove it letter and a couple of other letters telling them in no uncertain terms what would happen to them (legally) if they continued to harrass me.
If you're paying them via your DMP... why are you requesting the CCA now? Surely that strategy is over now... you've accepted the debt, what's exactly the problem?
  • I'm confused, if you are already paying the debt, why have you asked for the CCA?
Usually you would request a CCA if you're disputing that the debt is yours, but you wouldn't be paying a debt you are disputing.
Unless you're disputing the amount rather than saying that the entire debt doesn't belong to you.
  • CCA request is a good idea on a pre April 2007 card or loan debt. Especially if they are threatening court action. Without it they are stuffed and they know it.
