After encouragement from benbenandme (and yeovilmac) I've decided to start an MSE stylee diary. I've wanted to for a while, but wasn't sure where to put it (thanks for the suggestion MSEAndrea gave me here).

A question about : Saving for my maternity leave in July 2013

Hi,
I haven't posted on here before, hope this is the right place for this, have just been lurking and taking all the good advice on board, but I feel like I need something to focus my savings on and to save money as I'll be starting my maternity leave on 1st July 2013, which will hopefully be for 12 months.

So far I've managed to put Ј5640 in an ISA and should quite a bit to put in a new ISA in April. This is thanks to a PPI claim and a bonus from work.

A question about : 10k in 18 months

I hope to save 10k in 18 months, a lot but I am determined to reach it. And if its just below, thats fine, if I have Ј5k thats a fail and I'm determind not to fail. The aim is Ј555 a month.

There is me and 3 children, school age so plenty of I want's and school needs. But they are gradually coming round to the saving idea. We are using the do we really need it idea or is it to keep up with the Jones.

Things we no longer need are being sold, less food waste, cheaper options.

Can anyone help me, please?
I would like to open a saving account in Barclays. And I do not want to pay them a lot for that. I can pay in some money every month, and I am able to not move them out for one year

Hi I've finally decided to take the plunge and start a diary on here. The problem is I don't really know where to start...

Ok, I'm 22, live with my parents and am working hard to try to save a deposit for my own place. I'm self employed and earn approx 12k a year. Luckily I live in the north east where property prices are fairly low compared to the rest of the country.

I've been with Virgin for a few years now. Monthly Ј10 contract 200 mins 3000 texts. Never get close to using them up. When my cheap old handset broke I was ready to transfer to Tesco with a similar contract but 500mb data. Phoned Virgin and they gave me, without any haggling, a new HTC one V, 200mins, unlimited texts & unlimited data. A deal normally Ј29 month but only Ј10 to me. Thanks.

Hi everyone

I've started this diary to keep my mind focused on the end result: My dream home.

I've fallen in love with a house once owned by my great auntie and great uncle. I would love to get it back in the family (sentimental, I know). It's up for Ј69,995 - Ј74,995. It's in good nick, and been on the market since March.

Total savings so far:
Deposit: Ј4,500/Ј6,000(75%)
Fees: Ј160/Ј600(26.6%)
