A question about : Homebase parking ticket

Advice please. We visited our local homebase store on a Sunday morning for approx 20 minutes and then again in the afternoon for about 10 minutes. We then received, via our employer (because our car is a company car) a parking ticket from G24 saying we overstayed the time 120 minute parking. We noticed that the first image was our car but the second image (the rear of the car) leaving Homebase was not so clear yet the image of the reg plate was white and not yellow (which would be the colour of the plate if it was our car leaving). We were also at Wickes for a kitchen appointment during the afternoon and the time G24 claim our vehicle was at the homebase store.

We wrote back and said it was not correct, we happened to visit homebase twice, we also asked them to clarify the two images and provide all images they had of our car. We posted the letter.

On Friday we received a letter from them (via our employer even though we supplied our address) and it thanked us for our email (we didn't email as there was no email address on their ticket notice) and had not answered anything we wrote.

Their letter goes on about a Robophone v Blank court case and that the onus of proving an amount claimed is a penalty rather than liquidated damages, is upon us (the party who which the ticket is issued) so assume they are talking about our employer?

It also says we can provide proof of our claim(?) either by providing bank statements, receipts or letters of authority and they may consider a gesture of goodwill....what does that mean ?

None of the content of the letter makes any sense and doesn't answer any or the questions we raised. G24 have said they won't enter into any further investigations with us and we either have to pay up, appeal via IAS or they will take us to court.

What do we do next please

Best answers:

  • Was it one of those parks where it's 'no return within n hours'?
That does seem unfair to me if it's two separate shopping trips
  • Not that we are aware of...they claim we were there from 10:10-14:57! They said it was an overstay
  • You need to read the newbies thread in the parking ticket sub-forum but this is a classic case of double dipping. Don't worry about it, don;t pay it but don't ignore it. See the newbies thread for details of how to deal with it
    G24 are easy to beat
  • Is what you are calling a 'ticket' actually the same thing as this ..

What you have is not a 'parking ticket'?
  • I've had two of these cancelled for a family friend who used a Homebase car park (and shopped there), simply by asking the store to sort it out or a complaint would be made to head office. The store emailed the parking firm directly. Homebase is in no financial position to be alienating its customers.
P.S: I've moved this to the Parking sub-board.
  • Are your Homebase and Wicks on the same retail park?

  • Thank you. I will email that guy!
No Wickes is in another location to home base.
Ill check out the other newbie section
    Thank you
  • " G24 have said they won't enter into any further investigations with us and we either have to pay up, appeal via IAS or they will take us to court."
Oh dear ..... if Wicks will confirm you where there then this would get laughed out of court.
Please carry on hounding Homebase to get this double dip cancelled ....
you have options on further action.
send the G24 scammers conformation of your appointment at a different location ... Wicks.
    or
appeal to the kangaroo court of the IAS with the same conformation.
    or
tell them that you would love to see them in court as you would then be able to claim all your expenses
please post up any reply you write up for the forums grandees to advise on, before sending.....
Wicks are you 'joker' so get that conformation ( if you are looking for a new kitchen , then they will fall over them selve to confirm)

  • Ah, the good old G24 template letter.
Why would you expect them to go to the bother of editing it to make it accurate? Personally, I would appeal to the IAS in the vague hope you get a rogue assessor who will actually refuse to toe the party line and rule on the facts of the case.
