I ordered oil yesterday Ј274 for 500 litres at kellys fuels, best I could get was Ј255 at Patterson Oils and Kellys who I've a monthly direct debit with price matched it
Think I'll invest in a few cheap jumpers for the rest of the year haha

  • We've dual oil/coal heating but try running 18 radiators off one open fire. It's hard to do but at least the coal suppliments the oil.
  • My dad popped round to fix the airlock in my boiler today and he turned the boiler thermostat down to 60o, he says doing this has saved them money on oil. I know it seemed to help when I did it with my old Econ7 hot water tank but didn't even realise I could do it with the oil too
I used 500lts in the past 10 weeks and am mortified at the amount of money we've been spending on oil since we moved here
  • It's a reasonable solution for those who don't have £250+ to spend on oil, but it's actually very expensive. I paid for 500l last week with Lisburn Fuels and it cost 51p per litre. With !!!!!!!!! it's working out at just over 68p per litre in this deal.
That's quite a markup for 'helping' people. Seems to me they're looking after themselves first, punters second.
  • Wasn't disagreeing Dave (I did say it was a reasonable solution), just seems a little excessive.
There are a number of oil dealers who will operate a monthly payment plan. You basically pay the same(ish) for your oil, just spread the payments over 12 months. Worth looking to see if any will offer that.
As for hoping the price drops??? You and me both!
  • Wow DaveG7.
You really like !!!!!!!!!. Since joining in October and in just 11 messages, you have:
  • Defended their premium rate phone line
  • Frowned on suppliers that charge extra for late payment (just like on the !!!!!!!!! site)
  • Promoted their 200 litres option
  • And bought from them in November, January and now April (no wonder you're skint)
  • They should give you a job...if they haven't already

  • Any bets on when we will be topping Ј500 for 900 litres

  • I use maxol direct for oil deliveries as I find them quick and courteous. We have a dog so when I order I need to know what day they are going to come so I can leave the back gate open and the dog inside - maxol have delivered on that specific day every time so far without mishaps.
However I do make sure that I ring round the other oil companies first for quotes which takes about 10 mins and can save ЈЈЈs.
For instance we ordered 900 litres last week which came on Tues of this week. The price last week was sitting around Ј460 for nearly all the oil providers but stephen morris were doing it for Ј439. Maxol matched this as I am an existing customer. Ј20 saving for 10 mins work - nice!
Would love to switch to gas but still seems far too expensive to get connected if it isnt in your house already - if phoenix have to pipe it from the road you are looking at Ј2000+ equivalent to over 4 full tanks of oil. Still far too expensive.
  • I found Meekin to be best value for 500 litres today at Ј267.96.
weve run out...........again! Have decided the new rule is NO MORE TIMER!!!!!!!
Although kids are going to bed no problem at the moment.......electric blankets, lol.
  • I have a direct debit with Cawoods for Ј40 a month, and up until recently they have always price matched...last time I called them I asked for their price for 900 litres, without telling them I was an existing customer. They gave me the price (think it was around Ј368 at the time, and I thought that was wildly expensive, little did I know what was in front of us), I told them I had been given a better quote of Ј360 and asked if they could match it- she asked if I had ordered from them before and when she found out I was an existing customer with an account, she said they couldnt price match. I felt a bit hard done by as I wasn't given any discount for being a loyal customer! My intention was to cancel the dd and take my business elsewhere after that fill but that was before the price of oil went sky high and I think I probably owe them money now, so am going to stay put, but will try harder next time for a price match.
  • I had a monthly account with Maxol Direct.
    Absolutely no advantage.
They quoted dearer price than other companies
They seem to think that because you had an account with them that they can charge you whatever they like.
Loyalty is not a two way thing with them.
  • Haven't seen any mention of Finlay Fuels [Ballygowan] on here. Tel: 97528332. WWW.FINLAYFUELS.CO.UK.
They give excellent service and the prices seem comparable [I do a price check usually] ... maybe it's because of the amount ordered, we have a big tank that needs filled.
    Mar 08: 1500L = Ј748. [Last fill Jan 08 - cost Ј650. ].
Seeing it here has just scared the s**t out of me, that's over Ј200 a month
and if my usage stays the same it will be Ј250. I need to lie down.

  • typhoon -
maxol have always price matched a lower quote for me as an existing customer - you just have to tell them what company it was and what price. It pays to ring around and I am very happy with maxol's fast delivery and courteous staff so while they continue to price match me I wont be going anywhere.
I do pay the whole balance off in one go though (not monthly) so this may be why!?
  • I think most companies will price match if you ask them .. they usually have a good idea about what each other are charging (probably have one of their own employees phone round so that they know if anybody is chancing their arm

  • i am pretty sure the reason Cawoods didn't price match is because they already had my money (from my monthly direct debit) so they knew I was going to buy from them anyway...which is even more maddening. I had fully intended cancelling the direct debit and going elsewhere, but with the price of oil the way it is, I will probably have a debit balance with them now, wheras I had always been in credit before. I did argue the case with them before and they told me I was one of the very few customers in credit with them, and I asked why I was being penalised for other people's actions! Either way it will be 500 litres for me next time I fill, gone are the days of full tank orders!
  • 900ltrs £480 online with Deighan Fuels
  • Its made me feel quite faint looking at the prices online think i will have to lay down lol
