A question about : Has Anyone Ever Had A Home Visit From Littlewoods/Nationwide Debt Recovery?

I'm wondering whether, the fact that they are a Catalogue Company, they are more likely to have scarey people in my area..... that will come knocking/hasselling me in person.

Obviously they are being awkward and refusing to accept token monthly payments!

Thankyou for any replys title=Have

  • What no replys........
  • It's very expensive to send people to the door so the dca has to be fairly sure it is going to be worth their while to do so.
If you keep negotiating with them, I don't think there is much they can do. Remember, these dca are not Court appointed bailiffs so their powers are limited.
I can't give you direct experience of these guys but when I was going through my problem days I didn't see a door collector.
  • It's like any of these firms. They like to threaten to "send someone round", but it very rarely happens.
Even if they did, then you just tell them to bu**er off, you are making token payments, and will only deal in writing. If they don't leave, then you call the police.
If they allegedly won't accept the payments, then just send them anyway. They won't often really turn anything down.
If they make repeated threats of a home "visit" then send something like:

  • Hi, You can remove your home telephone number from your catalogue account web-site, go to update details. You can also request by letter that your contact details be removed from telemarketing data-banks. And yo stop the annoying telephone operator rattling on at your phone expense with her 'offers at the end of the call', you can also request that you wish to stop all telephone order offers too. No tey don't send anyone round to sort out the debts, Littlewoods did many many moons ago, but that has long ceased. Have a good day x
  • Thankyou for all your replys and advice, its very helpful and reassuring.
  • I'm having the same trouble lxdirect won't accept my token payments, they said they'd accept Ј50 a month if I accept a 39.9% interest charge on my account I told them no so they referring me to the nationwide debt recovery people, they the only ones who will not accept and are making me feel really ill.
  • I have lots of experience with this company (see my signiture, both the littlewoods catalogues)
They do send terrible threatening letters. They even use scaremongery such as "we'll contact your employers" or "well make you pay for this" blah balh blah. Its all rubbish.
I was getting up to 20 phone calls a day from them and a letter every 3 days when i missed a couple of payments in a row.
I sent them my SOA and they refused to accept it. Told me they wouldnt stop the interest etc. So i repeated the letters to them saying i was in financial difficulty and they didnt respond again just kept sending threatening letters and millions of phone calls. In the end I'd had enough, and sent them a really shirty letter, stating that "call yourself a company? you cant even organise it between yourselves to reply to a letter?" and "if you dont stop calling me i will have you for harrasment" I even called their bluff and said that I'd had legal advise on it. (i hadnt)
Within 4 days of sending this, i had a letter back full of apology, saying that there was no problem and they would accept the amounts i had proposed.
The thing you have to remember with these horrible DCA's, is that they have more control over what they can/cant do than they let on. If they ever tell you they "cant accept that low monthly payment" or "freeze the interest" thats rubbish, they can, but you must be firm with them.
It is extremely unlikely that they will send bailiffs round. That would cost them too much money, and as long as your paying something or keeping in regualr communication, im pretty sure they wouldnt.
    Hope this helps x
  • I was told it was rare for collectors to call but I've had 2 call round in the last week and that was after I sent the creditors the above letter which they chose to ignore! One of my creditors is being particularly difficult and not accepting my DMP payments, so sent a collector around for the full amount. Got told in no uncertain terms what he could do and he soon left. I'm female and live on my own so don't let them worry you. They have no legal rights. I'm the the process of now writing complaint letters.
  • I have made a payment online of the amount I have offered. In my letter Ive given them 14 days to respond or as I told them I shall place a complaint with the financial ombudsman service. Will see what happens.

...has anyone had dealing with this debt company ...from what i have heard littlewoods cataloque group are one of the hardest ones to deal with[/quote]
I started a dmp in Sept and my OH had 2 accounts Kays and Littlewoods that were both passed to NDR. So far so good, NDR have agreed to freeze interest, stop charges and have accepted the offer of payment from Payplan. They seem to have been easier to deal with than the actual companies themselves which surpirsed me
  • I'd be more worried about Jehovas coming to my door (no offence)
  • have you contacted a debt company to contact them on your behalf and make monthly payments? i have this in place of some other debts, one of them being with the littlewoods group. they agreed immediately.
  • do not worry about NDR they are not even a licensed debt collector or baillif so if they start sending you threats by emails and letter contact the office of fair trading
