A question about : Hack your VHS recorder to make serious cash.

This is fantastic, there's literally hundreds of pounds worth of easy to hack components inside many Ј20 VCRs, all you need to access it is a screwdriver. So before you thought any old VCR away... check this.

  • Great tip Martin! I got 2 Ipods and a new laptop from hacking my VCR!!
  • only 2 ipods and a laptop?
    i got 9 laptops, 14 i-pods, and a vcr monster
  • I havent got an old vcr and I dont care about the ipods or blu ray players but I really want a vcr monster
Pm me if you want me to adopt yours
  • I want me a monster!!!
What a great pet to have around the house!
He likes marshmellows, so that wouldnt cost much so a moneysaving pet right from the start, then you could also sell your ipods and various other finds on ebay and make a massive fortune and buy yourself a job lot (lorry load) of old VCR's.
Once you have done this you can then become a pet stoore for VCR Monsters and also have a great shop selling your treasures you have found, not forgetting to stock up on the marshmellows as cruelty to animals is not allowed and illegal!
    One final note...
A VCR Monster is for life and not just for Christmas folks...
  • Sounds like a great money maker but what do I do next with the bits? One monster going free to a good home!

  • excellent! good to see a sense of humour on these boards,
  • 24 AA batteries!!! - now where is my screwdriver? - DOH! lol
  • Great voice over on some of those videos
  • Ok, now if you want to really put your old VCR to some use.... you need some technical skills, but not a lot really.
Strip out the components and reuse the case to build yourself a home media centre PC. I'll not go into gret technical detail here for obvious reasons but, by using an old laptop power brick (ask on Freecycle) to supply the motherboard power you can end up with a decent, quiet media centre PC with as many Freeview/Freesat boards - and hence recordable channels - as you can physically fit inside. How do fancy being aboe to watch one programme but record 3 or 4 others? No more family squabbles about what you are watching or recording.
Just make sure you recycle the electronic components properly and not just dump them in your wheelie bin
  • Hmm...I didn't find any batteries in my VCR - only a 50 inch flat screen plasma.
    I think I've been had . . .
  • I havent watched the video yet (youtube blocked here in work). Whats this about a monster?

  • Hi Martin

  • I assume that most people by now have twigged that they're taking the wee-wee. GPS and iPods inside your old VCR? You wish...
