A question about : Natural Hair Dye for grey hair

My mum currently dyes her hair every 3 weeks or so to cover grey roots, but she's recently become very aware of all the ammonia and nasty chemicals that are in them. She's not ready to go 'au natural' yet so I've been enlisted to help! I've tried googling, but it seems like most natural hair dyes just arent strong enough to cover grey hairs- does anyone here have any suggestions or recommendations on a product? Thanks

A question about : Electric Kettle or Gas?

I've always tried to be green with my kettle - i.e. only putting in the water I need, but I was at my friend's today and noticed despite having an electric kettle, when he made tea, he boiled an old fashoned whistle kettle on the gas stove.

He says this is cheaper and more efficient than using an electric kettle? Is he right? Because if so I will follow his example.

A question about : How much electricity do you use in a day?

I thought of this, after watching the Panorama programme last week.

This morning at 8.30am I had a brainstorm and checked my electricity meter and wrote down the reading. The i whizzed round the house and turned everything off by the plug.

I am going to record the meter reading tomorrrow morning at 8.30 am to see how much electricity I used and to see if I can reduce it day by day or week by week.

I need to buy more electricity saving light bulbs as only have three in the house at the moment.

Drink cartons?
They can't go into the organic bin because of the plastic lining... Eg. innocent smoothy thinks cartons...

Bottle lids
The glass bottle lid looks like it is made of metal. Does it then go with the cans.

A question about : Ways to re-use water?

We have just moved into a new house with a water meter. We're a family with 2 kids under 4 who have a shallow bath every day, we use a dishwasher every day and also use washable nappies for the baby so the washing machine is also on every day.

So I'm looking at ways to reduce our water usage in other areas. We live in quite a rainy area so are looking into getting a rainwater barrel to use for watering the garden. Any recommendations or tips re a cheap barrel?

A question about : Juice

Hi all

My first post. I was going to change to NPower Juice 'cos they are about the "greenest" I could find and Greenpeace reccommends them. I'll wait now until Oct when all companies put up their bills etc. but thought I'd mention it.

Also, if more people do sign up to greener options then I imagine they wil become cheaper for all? So even if they are not the cheapest it might still be a good idea to change to them.
