A question about : Good company for double glazing?

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me where I can get a good quote for double glazing? I have to have all the windows in my house refitted as they are rotting and only single glazed. Can anyone recommend a good and trustful company for double glazing?

I have heard so many stories about people coming round to their houses for quotes and they stay for hours to try to get them to sign on the spot.

I have a company coming round to my home next week called 'Dunraven' they are based in Bridgend. Does anyone know what they are like?

Many thanks for all replies.

Best answers:

  • You could try 'Axis' who are based in Caerphilly. They aren't the cheapest but they don't hassle you to sign.
    Hope this helps!
  • Thxfor the advice on axis. Dunraven are going to be my first quote so I will try Axis after them, do you know anything about Dunraven windows?
  • Thx for the reply, I really thought that dunraven may have been different, well I will just have to wait until they come round and see.
Could you tell me who you picked for your double glazing?
    many thanks
  • I used to be a double glazing sales rep for both the 'mountain' and the 'knight on a horse' companies!
The first quote we were to give the customer was THREE TIMES WHAT THE COMPANY WAS WILLING TO GO DOWN TO!!!!
They also treated the customers disrespectfully, and as an ethical person I wasn't willing to continue.
So for heaven's sake HAGGLE your socks off!
Sadly, the business model of that industry is cold calling and to try as hard as possible to get the sale on the day. As an internet marketer, I know that there are much more ethical (and more effective) ways of selling, but they have yet to discover that.
Just humour them, and then once you've got a quote, say you won't sign until your spouse/parent (or whoever) approves it. If they insist, tell you have to be somewhere at a certain time, and actually leave the house if you have to!
    Good Luck!
  • I would highly recommend Welsh Window Systems but they are based in Barry and I'm not sure where you are.
    Their website is....https://www.welshwindows.co.uk/
Cavon is very friendly and does not rip you off - my parents and I have used him for years. He is a bit forgetful, so you have to remind him to come and visit you!!! He is also very busy, so if you're in a rush for the job to be done, you may have to wait a couple of weeks.
  • confusedmix, I eventualy used a small company based in Gorseinon, Swansea, who are sadly out of business now
  • Ive been fitting windows for over 20 years and my best sales pitch is "im not a salesman" I know more than most and they mainly talk crap and lots of it. Sorry but i am well up in the north wales /merseyside area to help.
  • Hi thx guys for all your replies, I am in the swansea area.
Sharon59 can u tell me what the name of the company is in ponty? As I regularly go there to visit friends.
I'm getting quite scared with Dunraven now! But I hope they've changed since everyone had their quote.
    Anyway thx again.
  • I can recommend secureseal windows from Blackwood
  • Hello,
I been having lots of double glazing sales people visiting and i would recommend Everseal on Hadfield Road (next door to enterprise rent-a-car) or Dinas Windows both came with very good quotes
But some pointers that i found is that stay clear for safe-style uk, they came across as your typical sales person would and bombard you with so much lingo that you'll be none the wiser when they leave.
    Hope that helps.

  • Anglian fitted our windows about 20 years ago and they still look like new. OK, they are a bit more expensive but worth it. Only one problem in that time was lock trouble on a patio door and that was fixed without delay.
  • The Window Shop Wales (in Rhondda) did ours, they were good, no pressure whatsoever, resonable price, and havnt had 1 problem, they even cleaned up after themselves!

  • I don't know if you are still looking, but I had my windows and doors with Gowerglaze Window Co Ltd of Gorseinon in Swansea. The quality of them is fantastic, they were fitted with extreme care and nothing was too much trouble. I don't think you could go wrong with this company. They weren't the cheapest but you certainly get what you pay for. I would recommend them to anyone.
  • A mate of mine runs a business called Aquaseal, and is based in Clydach (844 276). I know that he's a good tradesman, and won't rip you off. There again, you don't know me, but you might be able to get some feedback from other locals who may have used them.
  • I recently bought a conservatory from Dunraven windows and had no problems at all, all staff were friendly and efficient and the work was carried out with the minumum of inconvenience.
  • ive worked in the double glazing business, can reccommend two companies , peter fennell and dg windows, both based in ystrad rhondda,

Dg windows, only has a phone number 01443 437763
  • First post so here goes..
OP (see I know some terminology!) has probably sorted out double glazing by now but I agree with all those who say NOT DUNRAVEN! I don't like their sales tactics at all.
For the Swansea area I would strongly recommend BJ Bevan. A family firm. They were efficient and didn't play games. Their work men were reliable and they did what they said when they said it. All work is FENSA guaranteed and they are members of guild of craftsmen.
We called them (came recommended) and they came and offered a quote which was half the price of Dunraven's 'discounted' price. They knew what they were talking about and put no pressure on us whatsoever.
I honestly am not on their pay roll and am not family or friends!
  • I used SafeStyle - terrible terrible service and price. Wanted 1 other window fittng (bathroom) after having the front done with them, Ј550 + Ј60 surveyor fee.
Monmouth Windows - Ј160 for window, if you want it fitting they charge Ј80. So Ј240 - decent window, we're going with them for the rear of the house.
  • I can highly recommend ultimate windows of glanamman near ammanford very good quality and service and the price is good aswell.
