A question about : Tastecard / View Card / Toptable

A new thread to help identify restaurants that put out offers for food (eg, 50% off food bill, 2-4-1 meals etc) and then charge an ''optional'' Service Charge (SC) on the amount of the bill before the discount.

As an example, if the restaurant offers you a 50% discount on food and your original bill is Ј40 which then should become Ј20, by logic the SC should be on the Ј20 (if 12.5% making it Ј2.50) not on the Ј40 (which makes it a whopping Ј5).

A question about : sharing restaurant bills in a group

Apologies in advance but found this the only sub-forum to post in..

Just curious how others tackle group meals with friends/others etc when sharing meals and drinks. do you split the bill total by no. of people or do you work out who had what?
If its a small group with close friends/contacts its not so much an issue, but with others sometimes you not met before, curious if there is a better way?.

What is the best thing to say when asking to take off the optional service charge from your bill when paying by card?

What gets it done with the least confrontation and awkwardness?

I find the whole process to be very awkward. Sometimes when I've asked to remove it, I am negatively confronted and questioned by staff. I want to avoid that. I hate to ruin a good meal, but I also hate to walk away feeling ripped off by a restaurant that didn't deserve it.

We'd love to know what a pint costs in your neck of the woods and Friday night's as good a time as any to ask!

A question about : Tastecard

Has anybody else had a restaurant listed on the site say they are not a member?

I visted the Metro Fish Bar (Whitefield, Manchester) yesterday (listed on Tastecard) website and was advised that Tastecard had put them on the site without their permission? They had asked to be removed but are still showing.

No discount was therefore offered.

Has anybody else had this problem?

Wondering if it's Tastecard or the restaurant who are lying!! Someone clearly is!!
